Julez beat me to it! :)
As he says, the major upgrade to everyone's favorite LightWave buddy is now available. (OK, I guess FPrime is also everyone's favorite. :-) ) Most of you are familiar with the work of Taron (http://www.taron.de (http://www.taron.de/)) but may not be aware that he's been a full member of the pmG team for some time. In fact, several of messiah's cool new features, such as the eyeball shader and sub-surface scattering shader were written by him (with much more on the way).
For all messiah:studio owners, this upgrade is FREE, so go get it! For messiah:animate users the upgrades start at just $199 (until August 8, 2004). (If you've purchased messiah:animate recently, check with customer support to see if you qualify for a free upgrade to 5.0.) There is a sale going on for new purchases too, of course.
Here's some of what's in the upgrades, though this is just the tip of the iceberg:
Besides taking care of reported (and unreported) bugs, messiah:animate 5.0 adds and enhances some amazing features that are designed to let you work faster and better than ever before. The all-new Pose System lets you quickly and easily store and recall poses... AutoRig has been massively enhanced and now features quadruped support... the new Bulge effect is great for loads of things, most especially for muscle systems... Item List Filtering lets you hide and unhide things in the selection list based on your own custom groupings... DirectX Export is invaluable for game creation... the complete OnionSkin system features options not found in any other software, bringing one of the most essential 2D tools fully into the 3D world... enhanced Dope Sheet features to speed your workflow... Python scripting support... and much more!
messiah:studio 2.0 includes all of that and adds incredible new rendering features and enhancements such as sub-pixel displacement... normal mapping... full sub-surface scattering capability for that extra level of realism... in-line, per-material, color correction... full-featured render API, which gives you the ability to create custom shaders that you thought were too difficult in other high-end packages... Light Materials, which let you apply materials to lights... Weight Tool integration for Texture Maps... an eye shader that makes creating realistic eyes insanely easy... Render Groups that make it easy to control the rendering of items, and what lights affect them... Lighting control-- per-surface, per-light control of diffuse and specularity... a workflow-enhanced upgrade to the Shader Flow system that not only lets you work faster, but makes it even easier to get the results you're after... and dozens of other enhancements and features. Oh, and faster Global Illumination-- up to 20 times faster!
Abbott & Costello... bacon & eggs... LightWave & messiah... some things were just made for each other.

I'd love to see a workflow evaluation of the new Messiah, particularly as a stand alone app, from someone coming from a LW perspective.

I'd just rather see if a regular user gets a chance first, and I'm sure you're be more interested in their views too.
