Hi all,
This is my last cg architecture work: three interiors of a house in panoramic format (.mov). The size of the files is very small, so don't mind to download it. - Nice work!
- The rooms seem a bit empty, but then again that's the way I like it. (My house is the same way.)
- The view outside the window in the bedroom.mov seems a little too dark for the lighting in the room
- The bathroom scene looks a little too clean.
- I really like the fact that you put them into QTVRs.

hey, very nice work it all looks great except for the sink drain in the batroom. It makes the sink look like unfinished cg to me.

great work there, absolutely love the use of qtvr (wish there was more use of it out there) & the lighting is fantastic
like the little touches like the half open door in the living room, though the corner with the white door and bright white windows looks a little sparse (imho)
the tiling in the bathroom is really good too
really inspirational work!

PS- btw, do you know of any good guides to getting started with qtvr? - thanks

Very cooooool! I'm doing an architecture as well right now. Can you tell me a bit about your lighting? Spots? Area lights? Shadow maps? FG? GI? What did you use? Very, very realistic and stylish!!!

The repetition in the bathroom tiles is so distracting, that I can't enjoy an otherwise good piece.

First of all, thx a lot because of your replies. Here is the requested tutorial for everybody.

Making panoramas with 3d software (Sections 1-4 3ds max specific; Sections 5-N general) using GoCubic. I've included the software to download. GoCubic and CubicVR (script for making it easier with 3ds max).

Steps:

1. Set up your scene (for the tutorial I've made a sample scene like this).

2. Put a camera in the scene (usually in the center but not necessary). Don't care about the fov of the camera.

3. It's very important to set up the aspect ratio of the image with 1:1. Don't care about the resolution, only care about the Image Aspect = 1.0

4. Run the CubicVR script (http://plugins.angstraum.at/cubicvr/index.htm)
4.1. Pick the camera
4.2. Set the output folder
4.3. Set the resolution
4.4. Render!!!

5. Now, we have 6 images (six 90º FOV images made from the same point but pointing at the center of the faces of an imaginary cube that rounds the scene.

You don't need CubicVR to generate the images. Just make the renders manually with a configuration like this:

Example:
Source Target

[0,0,0] [0,-1,0]
[0,0,0] [0,0,-1]

6. Launch GoCubic (http://www.render3d.net/foros/tutorial-panorama/GoCubic.exe)

6.1. File -> New (Yes, It sounds stupid, but if you don't make this before the next step you'll never get your panorama :P).
6.2. Make Pano -> Make Pano Movie (with Cubic checked).
6.3. Select an image of the images sequence.
6.4. Choose the name of the .mov et voilá!!!

I don't know, but It's not very ugly to set the camera manually for the six renders.

I don't think anyway that programming the script in mel could be difficult. You better ask in the Maya section of the forums.

I've always been annoyed with the standard cylindrical pano's you can make with most 3Dsoftware. Your cubic ones are a real solution to a couple of my problems. Let's hope I can get this to work with C4D (shouldn't be a problem actually, but you never know)

If you don't move the source of the camera, set up properly the target for the six renders and keep the 1:1 aspect ratio, there will be no problem.

If you are interested in the lighting settings of the renders, here it is the bedroom test scene with the parameters.

I don't use photon mapping, the render time for this test was 1min 44sg.

Except for the bathroom (in which I used area lights for the windows) here I only use skylight + directlight for sun (no aditional lights nor area lights for the windows) with 2.0 for the first bounces, 1.0 for the secondary bounces, 10-15 secondary bounces depth and exponential for the color mapping with dark multiplier set to 4.0 and bright multiplier set to 1.0.

I use GoCubic to create cylindrical and cubic panoramas.
It's a free and tiny tool to create QTVRs with any 3D program, as long as you render your images with the correct aspect ratio

Unfortunately I can't find a working download link anymore.
Don't know what happened.

These are some beaughtifull architextural renderings just superb modern simple design (like i like) great job. And thanks for sharing great tuts. Even though i dont use max the cubic qtvr is intriguing (better results). Thanks for sharing.

it's nice to see my cubicVR script in use, but you should rather link to the original location of the full package. in case i have to update it, things will get messy if there are different versions of the script floating around the net.

Just wonderfull tutorial and your QTVR images are just beautifull! I love the subtle reflections of the radiator on the floor. I have modeled an appartment for this site http://www.boim3.nu - I will reopen this project and try doing QTVR-files and refine the lightning. :-)

Looking forward to see more work from you when your site is up - when is it due?

by the way. CubicVR works with 3ds max 6 and vray. In fact works with every 3ds max render.

Hey, this is pretty cool, just remember if you dont have the quicktime authoring files to restart before it will work when you get them :).
I got a little iritated in the time before I worked that out.
Made this out of something I'm currently screwing around with.

If you want to include links in your panoramas to completely browse through a panoramas set, you must to use any software of authoring more complete. For example QuickTime VR Authoring Studio

another way is realviz stitcher. it also runs on windows. i considered supporting stitcher directly through the script, using its batch mode, but i'm not sure how many people are owning stitcher.

i'd also love to code something for objectVR creation (moving around the object), but i didn't find a free compiling tool for objectVR's...at least not on the windows platform. flash might be an option, i will think about it.

Really incredible! This is a great little detail to use for showcasing architecture and cg environments in general! It really gets annoying sometimes when you can't actually appreciate great spaces with a couple of screenshots... this definately changes the whole matter completely!
Oh, and FANTASTIC works! Keep it up!

Great work, and a very interesting tutorial.. Was looking into this myself last year, couldn't find anything to author QTVR's for PC, so ended up with a bit of kit from click here design (http://www.clickheredesign.com.au/)in australia.

It's MAC only, but has loads of options for compressing and connecting panoramas. You still have to output the 6 images from Max or whatever, but once done, it's sweet to use....

Very interesting render settings djshivan, i've only just started hacking my way into vray, and hadn't considered these settings, they seem very high, but i suppose the output looks super smooth, so there you go..

The parameters seems to be very high but the render time are not so high in medium quality settings or similar. Although this is the price of the quality in GI :|

As I directly told Plastic, this script doesn't recognize Brazil cameras and hope in a future update when he has some time to spend on it, while waiting for this great script to improve I'm experimenting on those QTVR... damn they ARE cool, I always heard and read about them but never got any chance to test that, well there's always a first time

Once again congratulation on your renders but as told before I can feel the lack of small details like electric current plugs on the walls, little stuff like that could have made 'em way more photorealistic, but still a great light job!!!

i don't have brazil. what's the purpose of the brazil cameras?
with vray i use standard cameras. why do you need special cameras with brazil?
