Hi, I'm trying to model an asian headshape, and wondered if anyone's got comments on the anatomy. This won't be made into a pic or anything, just an exercise.

If you're looking for average or typical, try a much flatter profile. Often the eyeballs will be flush with the nosebridge, or even further forward, flush with the eyebrows. The nose is almost always much flatter than this. Temples, cheekbones, sides of chin and jaw, bring it all forward. Chin is much too pointy. (Corners of mouth can be sharper too, but that's nothing 'asian'. And the shape of the skull seems a bit too square.)

It's better, but you did less than half the amount of change I'd do, all my remarks still stand.

get a reference!!!The idea of the exercise is that I get the GENERAL 'layout' of this particular shape down, so I don't think a reference would do much good, as I'd be focusing too much on getting a perfect likeness, and forget 'the big picture'.

Thanks again Stahlberg, You're perfectly right.

I think I'm closing in, more feedback please :)

Wow! I just looked at the first picture and the last - WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
I realize now that the first one is borderline caucasian - lol..

Much better. I think the nose 'ridge' (sp) may be too wide, making it look chubby. The eyes are definitely too wide, the outer corners extend too far to the edge of the face. (And once you've narrowed them you'll have to move them a little closer together too.)
It's also a myth that Asian eyes are slanted, some are but normally not.
The eyes seem far enough forward now, but the cheekbones and cheeks could come forward a bit more - though that depends a lot on the individual. But quite often you see very big rounded forward-pushing cheekbones here.
You could also select the center of both lips and push that back a little.

I also think you should try some reference, not just one person but several, that will help you to see what is 'typical', and still to stay away from any particular likeness.
