View Full Version : Some Modelling Questions

Hi there,

at the moment I am modelling a funny guy most of u are familiar with: Eddy from Iron Maiden...
Now I have some serious problems.
1st: I dunno how to model the teeth. I saw some people just model and texture the front side but I dont like it that way. I'd prefer to model a "bended thin block" and texture it from upside and frontside. But then I have problems with sharp teeth cause I have to model extra shape...(sry for bad English, hope everything is clear)

2nd: What about armor n stuff. Some people model pure anatomy 1st and just place the armor over it. Shall I delete the stuff under it or not. Probably it depends on if the model will be seen with and without later in the game?! Stupid question but after reading this http://www.poopinmymouth.com/process/character_process/character_process.htm I really asked myself this question.

3rd: What about skirts and kilts :). Maybe Eddy will wear one later...
How to model the kilt? Hm... very difficult to describe for me.... Because the textile is so thin, do I have to model the downside? Cause I would like to texture the outside and the inside on one poly...Is that actually possible???

Puuuuuh. :D

Again sry for my bad English. (Moderators are allowed to correct grammatical errors :argh: )

Hope some people can help me here. I'll give you WIPs after those questions are clear :)

THX

1st: as for the teeth you might find some useful tips here http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=150601&highlight=teeth

2nd: I guess it would depend on the size and placement of the armour. Otherwise I would leave the geometry underneath. If it were really large armour I might delete it.

3rd: yeah... just set you material to double sided. For example use as cylinder and remove the top and bottom caps. If you wanted to double side it you could always just clone the cylinder and filp the normals of the geometry, without scaling the inner, flipped geometry.

Hope this helps... it's always difficult to try and explain thinsg without visual aids :argh:
