New thread, my other thread didn't get any replies...The model is finished, onto UVmapping then rigging...any critiques on the model you'd like to give would be appreciated.

The arch across his head will have horse hair.

It looks kinda like his pants don't come all the way up to the top of his pelvis bone. You might want to add a belt or something. Right now it looks kind of like they would fall off.

The idea is where you can see underneath the pants...the place around the hips, is a stretchy material that holds them up...although, a belt would add more detail to the lower body which I think it might need.

Lookin good so far. I dont remember if he had a belt in your concept sketches but it looks like he could use one. Some more buckles and clasps for the armor might look good too. Im really lookin forward to seein this textured.

Whats the word on the script for this? eny progress?

Yeah, I think the texturing is going to add a lot. As far as the script goes, the story has been finalized, script is finished...I've got storyboards and an animatic finished as well...so its all production and post from here on out...I'm definitely going to add more lower body detail...

If you're interested I'll send you a link to the script...and I'm going to redo the animatic pre-viz style with the model sometime soon.

Yeah Send me that link. I like to see what you've come up with. Are you doing this project all by yourself or do you have a team?

Well your off to a great start. I really liked the 2D concept design that you have done for this guy. If you need eny help Id be more than happy to give a you a hand in my free time (unfortnately I dont seem to have a lot of that thanks to work). I can see that modeling and concept art are definately some of your strong points , how good are you at everything else?

Well I like to design the look of things, and I have a fair bit of knowledge about rendering and texturing in Maya....I've done more animation recently as well - but realistic animation I'm trying to get around...I need to find a style suiting to the look and story, but something not real...unless I decide to rotomotion it(which is looking quite tempting right now)...so I think I'll be able to pull something off worth watching, but I guess only time will tell...

I'm e-mailing links to you now...

I just read the script. It liked it but it left me wondering about a couple of things.
-Who or what are they fighting against in the war. I dont know exactaly what you had planned to show in the battle scene but it might be nice to see the captain pick off a couple of the bad guys
-I wanted to know more about the book after reading the script (what was on the last two pages). I think thats a good thing because if you ever wanted to do a follow up you could have some one else find the book and continue on.
In the end I think you got a pretty good script put together.

Well the title of the story is abridged, which is why the last two pages you'll never know. Thats the point...I'll never show or read the last few lines of the poem. I'm not so interested in showing the opposition forces, I really want the situation to be dangerous, but not about fighting...I wanted it to be about the captains concious decision to go back out into danger after his book. I want the captain to be more of an intellectual than a brute. He is a badass, but with a brain. I am planning on doing more stories inside of the universe I've created...so I'll be able to flush out the war a little better later on, but this story has nothing to do with the war. I'll definitely consider having the captain fight, though I'm more interested in showing his passion for the book. What do you think it would bring to the table to have the captain fight, like what would it give him character wise in the story?

I like your design, although I have to agree that the pants look weirds. I think it's mostly because it's a male figure, if it was a girl, we are use to see a lot of low-waist pants.

my other crits would be, the 3 straps on his breastplate, they look a little too straight, rigid. maybe curve them a little and make them less flat with a little more detail?

cool character man, I like your story, it has potential:)

I have this other question...

how do you manage the skinning of your shoulder? looking at it it look like if he move his arms up the shoulderpiece will crush his shoulder. As if he will not be able to moves his arms up vertically if you think of real life physics. this is a design flaw in my opinion, as you wouldn't like wearing an armor that block your arms in t-stance. usually shoulderpieces are rounded to allow the movement.

Have you tried to move it?

- Walx

All of the scalling is going to be dynamic so I want it as straight as I can get right now...and I think the texturing is going to add a lot of the detail thats missing, not only there but throughout the entire model. The shoulders I've already torture tested, they're actually designed to move correctly...in reality the shoulder cannot bend beyond the T stance, once the arm breaks that angel the arm actually bends via the clavicle and rotation. The shoulder pieces are attached just below the shoulder muscles above the bicepts...I'll post the tests of what I've done so far. Thanks for the insight...:)

Here is the shoulder test...

shoulderTest (http://www.rmsmedia.com/thesis/shoulderTest.mov)

As you can see the breast plate is being stretched with the arm...this is temporary, I just wanted to see what would happen if I wrapped the breast plate with the body...it will move more naturally in the future...as well, there are no blend shapes and you can see that all of the bicep rotation is actually happening higher up on the arm than natural...I'm cheating with the shoulder pads...and will use this later on to cheat more if I have too...this is just a test with no blend shapes or any corrective deformations...just bones...
