View Full Version : 3ds max Video Post - How does it work?
thinKer3D 07-26-2002, 02:12 PM :: I've heard that the Video Post is an extremely powerful tool and allows you to do many things you can do in AfterEffects. Is it good enough for film work (is assume it is)?::

it's really not worth using. it's been in there for a long time now and i haven't used it since version one. can't recall if dos4 had it. it's better to just render out your files and then slap them together in a compositing package where you can actually get some real time feedback.
I disagree i use it all the time...
i think you can get some great effects outta the video post...
but I agree if you have all the money in the world then a compositing program would suit you too...
For simple compositing, I'd use After Effects, but Video Post lets you do some things that are specific to the 3D scene. Causing specific material IDs to glow, etc.
The best of both worlds would be to use Video Post to render the glows and other effects to a seperate render pass, then composite them in with After Effects.
