Hi,

I'm gonna start building my house in 3D, in order to make a virtual visit before it'll be built.
Just need some advice:
- what cam is the best choice. The rooms are 4x5 meters, 6x5 meters.
- got the blueprint on paper, any pointer how to draw it in max in scale?
- is it possible to 'snap' a max (6) window into a wall, allowing the hole in the wall to move along when moving the window?
- lightning advice?

Any other advice it greatly appreciated!
Maybe there are some good tutorials/recourecs you know of?

Regards,

Bruno

hmmm. Max wasn't really built for that kinda of application, but perhaps there are some plugins for max that can help you do all those things. I can tell you what max can do natively though.

Free cams, you can adjust the camera field of view to suit after the model is built.

I would actually model it in autocad import it into 3d studio max and then texture it. But if you want to use max, you can actually customize your units to meters or US units

- is it possible to 'snap' a max (6) window into a wall, allowing the hole in the wall to move along when moving the window?
Not really, but you can use compound objects and just save the extrution. If you model it properly though, you can just move the vertices around and it will be like "snapping" to the wall. Just make sure you don't collapse your texture corrdinates.

- lightning advice?
Depends on what your doing. I would recommend using scanline rendering and using the light tracer plugin. Its quick and easy and the results aren't bad.

"- got the blueprint on paper, any pointer how to draw it in max in scale?"
If you have the dimensions, just setup 3dsmax to use feet/inches and draw the floorplan out using the AEC walls to scale. You could also scan the image into your PC and use it for a background and trace it. Or, trace the image using Adobe Illustrator and then import the file into 3dsmax in .ai format.

"- is it possible to 'snap' a max (6) window into a wall, allowing the hole in the wall to move along when moving the window?" Absolutely....just use the AEC walls and windows (and doors) and the holes will be cut into the walls automagically. And if you move a window or door, the hole moves with it.

"Lighting advice?" - Greatly depends on which renderer your using.
