Hi,

I really didn't know much about refresh rates on monitors, and how they could effect your eyes. i had a 17" monitor and it was at 60Hz i used it for 3 years. Then today i bought 19" Monitor, i put it up to 85Hz, because i found out that 75 and lower destories your eyes, but i am having a terrible time looking at the screen. Is it because it is larger, are my eyes adjusting to the 85Hz?
Any ideas?

Thanks
Tabha

Hi,
i only encountered this with cheap CRTs. A good CRT should give you a completely stable and flicker free image with 85 Hz.
Cheers

nepali_gurkha, just give it some time and you should adjust to it.

Srek... refresh rate is refresh rate - has zero to do with the "quality" of the CRT. If it can go up to 85 (or any other rate for that matter), then it makes no difference if it is a high-end name brand CRT or some 'generic' brand cheapo screen.

The problem is with the size of the screen and the refresh. The bigger the screen the higher is must be or else you wiill notice a good deal of flickering because the eye is much more sensitive to slightly movement around your periferal vision.

I am actually having the flickering issue on my internet PC right now, because I had a 17" screen on it before set at like 70Hz and the screen was rock solid. I now got 21", and now I am noticing a good deal of flicker at teh same Hz. Unfortuntaly my vidcard can't go past 70Hz so I will have to live with the flickering until I get a new card.

If you can't jack up the Hz the only semi-solution is to bring down the brightness of the screen, and try to stay farther away from the screen (so less of the image is in your periferal vision). You might get used to the slight flicker, but its still not a good thing to be looking at for long periods of time - it will still tire your eyes out.
