hi all, here is a velociraptor i made for a mod called Trespassing for the video game Farcry. It is a 7998 polys model...

model:

and here you can download a 2.94 mb surrounding video:

some wires:

C&C are welcomed...:D

looking nice, textures look really good and the model looks like good proportions. only crit that i have is that it may be an excessive amount of poly's for a game character, but im not sure what roll in the game this will take. especially around the eyes it looks like you could reduce alot of geometry and have it look just as good through texture work. also, you could possibly use a plane with an alpha map on it for the teeth in sted of modeling each out individually. other than that its looking good, cant wait to see the mod, keep it up.

well i tryed it in the game yesterday, and it worked fine..but now i wonder what itd give with 200 raptors at the screen lol

i agree with over4ted, you could reduce alot of that and still have a great looking model, great work on the textures though, i really like 'em

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, the bad guys in FarCry weren't all that high poly (2500-3500 range, I believe) and used normal maps and other pixel shaders to increase their detail.

Good texturing but wayyyy to much polygons wasted.

i know i know ill edit it lol
but i cannotreduce too much
the model is supposed to be less than 3000 polys so i dont think i can reduce my polycount to that, without loosing too much quality.... that is a problem

YAY DINOSAURS!!!

That said, yeah obviously reduce the polys, and watch out for danger areas like just behind the skull there, where you have a lot of triangles all kind of deadending into one edge. The head legs and arms could all probably have half the polys they do, but you could meshsmooth THIS version of the dino, and bake in a bumpmap and have a really amazing looking normal-mapped 3k poly character. Reducing the teeth to 2 segments instead of 3 would go a long ways toward dropping that polycount and it would not be a noticeable difference.

YAY DINOSAURS!!!

Don't model the teeth, use an alpha plane for them. Quite frankly, you could probably just apply a vert weld modifier with a low tolerance and you can clean up most of those polys.

Really, you shouldn't model the legs, fingers, etc, with that dense a mesh, because you're not going to see that sort of detail unless this model fills the entire screen.

When I first saw the textured model, I fell in love. "YAY DINOSAURS" is right! 8-) Of course, I agree that the poly count could be way less than it is now ... I'm guess reduced by more than half. All of the above comments are correct ... and I agree with the big toe too. 8-) I do love dinos! Do you have any websites that you recommend for getting reference images for modeling/texturing dinos???

well you go on google, in the image section and you type the name of the dino you want and youll get loads of references pics..thats what i did:bounce:

Too many polys for a game character.
Itīs a great model!! With a few more details and some smoothing you can use it in a high end movie.

The texture seems good, as well as mapping.

i hope they are good
they took me loooottt of time
the unwrap took me one full day
and the texture, half a month:D lol
