Hey guys, I'm new here and just need a bit of help. I am having some trouble in 3dsm, I can't create a rubber looking material!

Would anyone be able to help me out please? I would be very greatful.

Anyway, what I'm creating is a gas mask..

Thank you for your time.

I had a quick look and couldnt find it so I did a search for "rubber" and it came up with no results.
There was a thread I was looking through before and I found one, but you need mental ray for it to work and I don't have that.

Don't have a material offhand, but play with the oren nayar shader with a high roughness setting, and then a very larged sized but low intensity highlight. That should get you started.

With scanline, the trick would be to play around with the specular. The multi-layer material gives you two layers of specular, which could be useful. Some soft, blurry reflection mapping could help too. Incorporationg fresnel effects (falloff map set to fresnel, IOR of around 1.5 for rubber) into your material could look nice.

Or, you could try glossy (blurry) reflections using V-ray or Brazil.

you could try a ractrace material and pumping up the soften to 10 (and then use the stuff mentioned previously).
