Im finding getting the parameters for what I want right very hard.
I havent used fog much but I dont see any other alternative for what im doing.

What i want is basically a cloud layer. I would like the fog to be very thick at the top and gradually go to no fog at all lower down.

What im going to do it have an object moving through the fog, and as it gets closer to the camera it becomes ever more visible.

Could someone explain to me how I can acheive such an effect. The manuals useless. Ive been muching around with the vol fog for a while to no effect.

Ive made the same effect by using layers of alpha maps on flat polygons... denser at the top to become less dense lower down but when the object pass's through it, i get the horrible layered look.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanx

go to rendering/environment

add Fog
click layered
falloff: bottom

render

play around with density, top, bottom.

excellent... i was using the wrong fog. :)

Can I tie the layered fog to an object ? At present it it coveres the hole view.

Can I create a cubiod and only have the layered fog inside that object ?

It doesn't seem like it.. you would need to use Volume Fog then..

maybe you could do a combination
