uses a sphere and then aplly a Bastket ball material onto consisting of two bump maps multiplied together (one of the black rubber lines and the air input ruber valve and the otther the small bumps.) you can then multiply the lines bump map in the colour channel with the desired colour of the basket ball, and then play with the other settings, HTH

I have made these before. For the bumps I would suggest creating a tileable bump map in photoshop. Just place dots around eachother, you will be amazed how it creates the same pattern seen on a basketball. For the lines, you can simply make a sort of 'U' shape that sits on the side of a bitmap. When you project this using planar mapping it creates the loop on the otherside of the ball. It is not the exact shape but 99% there. If you want 100%, then you need to do it in two stages. One for the ends of the ball, and one for the centre of the ball. I wish I had the files for you but it is a fewcomapnies ago now.
