Hey Im having a bit of trouble with this rig of a dog.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~cranch/dogskeleton.jpg

Im confused as to what bones rotate in which direction..

Looking at my cats.. I think.. The front bottom Twist/Knee bends backwards
like a humans would.. but the top bends the other way..
and the reverse both go back ( same as humans )

Could anyone clear me up on this. Im REALLY confused...

Behold the power of google my friend!

I'm a newbie to animation. But i have been leaning a lot of things about skeletal and muscle structures from good ol' google.com image search!

just go to google.com and do an image search for dog anatomy or dog anatomy diagram or whatever you think will bring back some images with dog anatomy!

also, one interesting thing you'll notice about quadrapeds (your dog, cat, horse, whatever) is that they have similar leg bone structures to most bipeds (i.e. humans). you'll notice that what makes up your human ankle joint is actually that raised joint that cats sit back on when they perch. you'll also notice that what is the knee on a human almost looks like part of the hip area on a four-legged animal. that is why they appear to move their legs strangely-- everything is just shifted way up and out! all the basic parts remain the same, only the proportions and positions are changed.

hope this gives some insight :)

later,
jim
