Look at the SLA examples that come on the CD. I think they might be at Maxons site aswell. I remember they had a couple examples of brushed metal. I am sure with some tweeks you can get what you want.

simply use the danel shader and turn on anisotropic. then play around a bit with the parameters to get the look you want. if you want to use a channel shader-lumas would be the solution for you. you gotta turn on anisotropic there, too.
good luck :D

oh yeah - i remember those fellas on the 2nd cd! cylinders, cubes and stuff if i remember - will have to have a look, the effect im after is sort of a fake brushed ali laminate, not real metal. Its a laminate that you apply to stuff to give the effect of brushed - will have a mess about and post up my samples.
cheers

Or if you want to use a normal material rather than danel, simply use the lumas shader in the luminance channel as it is the same tspecularity options that danel has :).

It was modeled in MIrai by AbientWhisper of CGTALK and other forum fame, he is an amzing modeler and inspiration for many others like myself. We also got rejected from Sheridan the same year and all. I decided to try else where for my education he decided to do his own thing, and look where he is, and look where I am :( Well I am getting there but I would say he is donig much better than myself. All I did was the texturing, and now I believe AW is texturing his own version with my UV maps. For his reel.
