Hi, I am just getting into the world of 2D digial painting, and am looking at cloth (clothes, drapes etc) drawing.

Alot of tutorials on the net seem to focus on the actual tecnique of how to draw them. But what I need is information on where the cloth folds should be positioned.

Does anyone know of any resources that tell of a way to work out where folds of fabric should go in a drawing/painting?

Quick answer: Anywhere that fabric changes direction like at an elbow or knee. If it's loosely draped as with the neckline of some women's gowns the greater folds will be at the lowest point of the arc, owing to gravity. Lastly, if the fabric is skin tight, the folds can gather anywhere. I don't know of any tutorials. My best advice is to draw from life as much as possible. Try draping fabric in different positions, or draw people sitting in the park. Hope that helps.
