Hey everyone, sorry if this has been posted before, but I checked a few pages back to see if there was anything on this, and I didn't see anything.

I was wondering if there was a good modeling book for Maya out there. Something that shows how to make models from caricatures to stuff like the Hulk. My modeling skills aren't good, and I really want to make my own detailed characters. Any help would rule. Thanks!

*sigh*

This should be posted in the Maya forum. Don't worry, I'm sure a mod will move it for ya!

BTW, I'm not aware of any Maya book specific to organic modeling per se but you might want to check out Maya Saavy or the "Inside" series which I'm sure have some chapters on it...

Oops, sorry. Well, I found a Peter Ratner book that looks cool.

Here it is (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0471215481/ref=sib_rdr_dp/002-0344105-1654459?%5Fencoding=UTF8&no=283155&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&st=books)

Anybody have this?

I've got that book. I bought it quite a while ago but haven't really used yet. Looks like an invaluable addition to one's library, tho'. Although it won't show you how to create cartoony and 'hulkish' characters it will definitely lay down the foundations of form and function. And the real beauty of the book is it isn't app specific which means you can apply it to whatever CG software you use.

Highly recommended!

what are the tools without the concepts? dont forget to look backwards too. sculpture is an old art.

check out the tutorial section for 3dtotal.com. there are several tips on char modelling there and dont cost a thing. especially a walkthru for modelling jeanne d'arc, made for max bu easilly converted to maya tools.

also here is a good and detailed walkthru on making a head.
