In Max there is a "named selection" option where we can select some sub-objects of an object, let say some vertices and "name" them. We can later come back and type that name and all those specific vertices are selected again. That option speeds up work and helps a lot in accurate modeling. Do we have a similar option in Maya? I want to choose some particular vertices in an object and name them or somehow specify them and later on come back and by typing that sign or name have all those vertices selected again. How can I do that?

Gday

Sounds like you want to make a 'set'...... go to "Create" up the top of the screen, and slide down to "Sets", then across to "Set". You can then either release the mouse button which will create a set named by default, or you can keep going across and open the option box, where you can name the sets before creating them. Later on, you can go down to the command line and type " select set_name1" or whatever.

you can select your vertices the go into create-sets-quick sets, type a name
ckick ok and you will see it in your outliner.
everytime you need them you can always right click and select on the dag node
in the outliner.

devdoka's method worked, thanks. robbo's method did not work for me, the command line doesnt recognize the set.

dedoka I'll go for the Check republic as Euro 2004 champion. Milan Baros rocks !

1-Now do you know an excellent tutorial on Maya polygon modeling? let me see it please.

2- The Maya 6 Bonus Tools does not have a help somewhere in the net, does it?

Thanks

G'day,

Didn't work huh? Maybe next time I should post a diagram...... :banghead:

The method does work, and the command line does recognise the set-name, if you put in the correct name that is. And, of course, you can select the set in the outliner too...... I should've kept it as simple as possible.

Both method should work actually.

The difference will be as a quick select set (QSS), this set could be access using the edit menu: Edit->Quick Select Sets->Set_name.

While when you create a set only (robbo's method) it create the set but not putting it as a quick select set so you need to select it using the command line.

When you use the command line, it is case sensitive, if your set name is WhatEverSet you can not select it by typing `select -r Whateverset`;

But I think both method are working.
