Hy peoples!

Is it possible to render out only the shadow of an object. I think on something like that:

You have a light, an object and the ground (Quad Patch). Then you check the "cast shadows" box and voilą, we have shadows. BUT, how can i render out only the shadows without the objects? Does it has somewhere an option for this???

Thanx

you ahve to apply the matte material to the object casting the shadow

but it will still occlude the shadow

You can do as megaflaizer said, or you can uncheck visible to camera in your object properties. This way you will have the shadow but no object and no occlusion.

Indeed I think it is a max 4 feature;) so you definitely had to go with the matte shadow stuff with v. 2. I guess people starting with max 4 will never know their luck.

how can i render out only the shadows without the objects?

maybe u need a B/W image of the shadows?...& no obj even the
ground plane?....then use RENDER ELEMENTS in the renderer dialoge box.
