Is there something special about "News Channel 4"(Does it exist?), or is it just supposed to represent any random news channel?

Is there something special about "News Channel 4"(Does it exist?), or is it just supposed to represent any random news channel? Since Holland does have 3 News channels, I take it as "what would news channel 4 be like?"

this is country specific tho, might not be that good of an idea, roberto.. someone got any light to shed on this?

There is nothing specific about news channel 4. It is just a generic channel. In America, every city has something different on channel 4. The idea behind the topic is to show something happening live through the eyes of your local news station.

Here is mine,
text in illustrator, 20 minutes.
All I could think for news four was an anchor.... or this.. so this is what I chose, channel 4, cnn, or any other newchannel tend to have this content.

This just in. Seven crazy castaways were discovered Sunday on an uncharted desert isle. Officials report that an adult male known only as 'The Professor' had been beaten up "for coming up with one too many bad ideas for being rescued."

PS, about 2.5 hours. I went a little crazy with the shading on the anchor man's suit.

Painter, 2.5 hours plus some minutes doing text and logo in photoshop.

In 2036 earth was invaded by a race of pink-skinned aliens. They ate president Bush (the grand/son of...) and all the other leaders of the world, including UN boss JP. Balkenende (most of you don't know this (leader of) man yet).
After that they took control of the world and through television they tried to win the hearts and minds of the people of the world (including all animals and plantlife). In which they largely succeeded 'cos they looked kind of funny in their grey-lightbulbish kind of spacesuit.

This is a still from the first speech given by Skroukkgrnaut, our new world leader.

PS, four hours (the pencil tool, pixel by pixel, is fun, and makes it easy to disregard the time) . . .

Hmmm. . . sketching pixel by pixel is yet another oxymoron. :bounce:

MayanuS - Wow! Your anchor looks very polished and I'm blown away by the vertical "tv lines". Did you use a filter for that? Great idea.

Goblin King - Your city scenes are amazing. Love your man on the scene.

vinylequinox - Gross. Nice closeup, bg perspective and, of course, the mucous.

Art2 - He's so cuuuuute! Great story. Reminds me of Tim Burton's Mars Attacks only friendlier. Ak-ak!

ravioli_rancher - Daaaaaaaamn! Time very well spent. Funny and looks great.

My favorite part about this so far is the logos people designed.

This looks like a fun exercise. Just registered and the posting rules say I cannot upload images. Is there a probation period I need to go through before uploading similar to the 5 initial posts being reviewed before posting?

Or, do I need to host the images and link to them? Please forgive the newbie question but I could not find reference to a probationary period. I did find some references to uploading but I still am confused :hmm:

great job Goro. My only crit is the aspect ratio you chose for your composition. I am suprised so many are disregading proper aspect ratio. perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps this is just a shot of part of the screen or maybe you see future televisions to be arranged vertically instead of horizontally.

cant wait till i get home tomorrow! then I can get back in the contest again!

how do you feel about the murder of you whole family?
do you feel guilty that you're the only survivor?
can you describe the moment when you saw the bodies floating in blood pools?
what can you tell us about the clothes you're wearing?
is it true that you and the murderer have an affair?

Layer 01:
Glad you like it. Hmm I had some problems with the lighting and colors at first. Then I completely painted over the sketch again. You won't wanna
know how it looked like before:)
I made a quick lineart in photoshop, which looks really funny. Then I started
to block in the main colors with the default Hard edged brush with opacity to pen pressure. (My favorite brush btw).
I added the explosion on a extra layer. As you can see I used a custom brush
for the explosion. The rest is all painted with the default brush.

Since these are quick sketches I usually don't use much layers and I paint
in very low resolutions (which is bad :)) And I save only one file which is even
worse:( I should draw bigger and save more files so I can make a WIP.
I still have some progress layers of the channel4 sketch. I can show you them
when my webserver is up again.

Ephesus:
hmmm my TV is 9:16 :)
You're right! But I thought it would be better for the composition using
this aspect ratio.

Garma:
Thnx! Well I usually use the default hard edged brush of ps with opacity
to pen pressure.

Sir Patroclo:
Your work is always amazing. Unique style and nice characters

Goro: thanks for your words. I'll love to learn more about your process, I was thinking today that with this last picture of mine the sketch lines were a bit out of place, like I was hanging to them as the auxiliary wheels in a children's bike, but couldn't do the jump to color blocks alone. If you could share some thoughts, I'll be grateful. Your picture is simply amazing, the guy seems almost happy about what's happening behind -like when animals climb into people's back- and that fog layering gives it great depth.

Sir Patroclo:
Actually I love your outlines. But you're right in this sketch they seem a bit out
of place but I think it's only because the outlines are too transparent.
I think it would be better when you make them a bit thicker and darker.

As I already said I love your lineart. There is no need to hide them imo.
Otherwise I would love to see some experiments without outlines.

I normally start with outlines too. then I block in the colors of the background
and the characters on two seperate layers. I decrease the opacity of the
outlines from time to time while I add more and more colors in the scene.
And then I reach the point where I don't need the outlines anymore. At this
point I hide them and continue painting.

looking forward to your sketches!
Cheers
Goro
