View Full Version : Renderman shaders in max: How?
CHRiTTeR 06-27-2004, 01:37 PM Since there are many awesome free renderman shaders available. I was wondering... cant i use them in max? I know Maxshade does this, but its only available for max4. I'm a max6 user... Any other (preferable free) plugin that can do this?

Scripts for using Max as a frontend to RenderMan.
Rendering done with RM renderer.
That's all I got.

Thank, but that isnt what i'm looking for...
I bassicly want to be able of using (and rendering ofcourse) renderman shaders in max itself.
Is this possible?

As far as I know, it's not possible in Max 6.
Last I knew, Maxshade went belly-up. But I have also heard that is it open source. If you can find the source, maybe you can find someone to give you a hand with a recompile...?
Or maybe learn MR's shading language and try to translate the shaders.
Is MR's SL as robust as RM's SL?
That's all I got.
edit:
Just found this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/maxshade
I haven't looked too hard just yet, but there might be something of use in there.
Not sure, but I think MaxShade could work with version 6. I remember using it with version 5.

Yeah, but MAX5 was backwards compatible with Max4. Max6 isnt... :/

The sourcecode seems to be public now...
Don't know anything about programming or compiling, but can this be (easily) compiled so it works under MAX6?
