Entertainment company is seeking to add a highly-talented, Anime-style Mecha Designer and a highly-talented, Anime-style Webcomic Artist to its art staff. The original flagship product is a roleplaying game, but the company is seeking to also produce a webcomic that will serve as the basis for a graphic novel. The setting is a Space Western with hard sci-fi elements set in an alternate future, something of a combination of "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Cowboy Bebop". The products are aimed towards a mature (18-45), sophisticated audience.
These are offers for freelance Work-For-Hire. However, it is paid, the pay is Fair Market Value (based on experience and work rendered), and, depending on the quality and timeliness of work rendered, successful candidates may be able to expect regular Work-For-Hire.
Please submit a cover letter and a detailed summary of experience, references, knowledge of anime (including favorite animes/manga), salary history, salary requirements, and either a link to an online portfolio (preferred) or attach sample art (not preferred).
For the Mecha Designer:
The company is seeking candidates who can produce "Gasaraki" type humanoid mecha, and realistic (not stylized) combat equipment (e.g., tanks, helicopters, fighters, cars, guns, etc.) in traditional 2D pencil and ink drawings. We are NOT looking for 3D computer models. Engineering and architecture backgrounds (particularly mechanical or aero/astro engineering) preferred.
The mecha should have an aggressive, gritty, sturdy, realistic, "cool" look that reflects real-world engineering and physics principles and real-world combat requirements, as if they could roll off the assembly lines of today. They should look somewhat more stylized that "Battletech" type mecha; a little more realistic than "Patlabor", “Armored Core”, and "Macross" type mecha; somewhat more realistic than "Gundam" type mecha; and NOT like "Evangelion" type mecha.
As long as the work is excellent and timely, and the individual is easy to reach, the Mecha Designer position does NOT require being in Los Angeles.
For the Webcomic Artist:
The company is seeking candidates who can produce a “Megatokyo”-style manga (i.e., black & white pencil illustration) based on the company’s original novels to post regularly on its website. For an example of the format, please see
http://www.megatokyo.com/ (http://www.megatokyo.com/)
Strong preference for Webcomic Artists in Los Angeles county.
The company will provide the script, mecha designs, and at least some of the character designs. If the webcomic is successful, a graphic novel version is planned for publication.
Please email all replies to wsartwork@xsmail.com (wsartwork@xsmail.com) and include “Mecha Designer” and/or “Webcomic Artist” in the subject line.
