View Full Version : displacement & normal maps

Can anyone suggest the easiest and best method for utilizing displacement maps in conjunction with a normal map, if I understand correctly they are used together.
This may not be the way to go, but i tried this out...
the transfersurface info through the Lighting/Shading menu to see if i could transfer geometry displacement from a sphere i pulled a few points around on to a normal poly sphere, but did'nt get any results out of it, even when i connected the map created to the bump map channel or the displacement channel, but i suspect even connecting to these channels is not providing normal displacement. The map created was just plain grey, hmmf.

I also notice from the docs it said you could view your results in the viewport with a cghardware specfic plugin, is there one available.
Can anyone pass on some good suggestions how to tackle this..
