View Full Version : Environment: Sewer Interior
stayinwonderland 06-24-2004, 10:10 PM Hi all, first time post so please be gentle.
This pic, an interior of a sort of future industrial type sewer system,
was created in Max and rendered with Brazil.
Total render time (for the final 1600 px wide render) was about a week.
hmmm, something not quite right there methinks.
Anywho, here it is...comments welcome :)

hi! :) welcome to cgtralk, have a great time!
You did a very nice job, especially on texturing, but it lacks a little on lighting. Not that it's bad or something, but it just misses that special touch that makes it really cool. It might be some sewer dirt on the walls or something. It might have been better if you left the foreground dark, but in that case you would have to add something to the middle ground. Also the water can have some green tints to make it even dirtier.

I know it is probably part of your theme to have that light in the sewer, but for me, when I think "sewer" daylight doesnt enter into the picture at all. And if that's not daylight and just some kind of access light or something its way too bright. It looks fine for sunlight, but to me it simply doesn't fit. Everything else looks really good, though. Some of the pipes could stand to be a little more metalic and rusted, right now they look more like a dull plastic, especially next to the pipes that are rusted. The rest of the textures are really great though, I especially like the look of the concrete. I also think the water is fine. It looks like...... sewage. One thing about it, though, why is there grass growing here? True you can fertilize grass, but large quantities of sewage create poisonous gasses that even grass can't handle. The grass looks really good as grass, I just don't see much sence in it being there.
Hope I wasn't too crit happy, this really is a great piece, these are just little things that caught my attention.

Hello
Yeah, it's not environmentally accurate in terms of context. I had the idea
that it was an underground tunnel system that had water works, perhaps
was disused for many years.
I wanted an excuse to play with light rather than MAKE a sewer if you get
me. I just called it 'sewer interior' because it was the closest thing.
The grass was just bits of weed and growth that was coming through cracks
in walls etc.
You are right about the pipes, some of them don't look right. It's so annoying
though, when it takes half an hour to get a half decent render of a small bit
of the pic, you tend to be discouraged from perfection. Damn render times.
Thanks for the comments though, they're much appreciated. More please!
