Hello all,

I am going to be upgrading to 8.5 very soon but I am a little confused by the pricing listed here:

http://www.maxonshop.com/cgi-bin/us/gp?pg=products/upgrades.main&sid=&uid=mxmhBwCabpzw7ck&aid=&cid=100&rn=109

I originally had purchased the XL 7 (or was it 7.5?) bundle with the free upgrade to the XL 8 version. Now looking at the upgrade options at Maxon's site I am not sure what I am getting when I upgrade from 8 to 8.5. The upgrade listed for version 8 to 8.5 doesn't say anything about the XL bundle, however, all the other upgrade packages do include XL in the description. So does anyone know if I purchase the $495 8.5 upgrade with Sketch and Toon is that the XL bundle?? Also I am assuming I am qualified to purchase this upgrade rather than upgrading from version 7. Am I correct in this assumption?

Not quite :)

8.5 is like a module to 8.2 so you will just be adding 8.5 features to your R8.2. So you will get an 8.5 key in addition to your 8.0 key. (otherwise all the plugin developers would have had to assign new keys to everybody that upgraded from R8 to R8.5.
Sketch & Toon is another module. I took advantage of the R8.5+S&T bundle upgrade and saved $50. Yes, they could try a little harder at explaining things on their website.

I would phone the sales number and explain what you want to do, then ask about what specials they have on. Basically quizz the sales person down. Then when you arrive at what you want, ask for some freebies. :-) They often give freebies and have specials that are not listed from what I can tell.

By coincidence I decided to upgrade to 8.5 from XL and buy bodypaint today. Well when I got through talking to the salesperson it turned out that going straight to the studio bundle was the same price as the two things I wanted, so that of course is what I did. There were some specials related to sketch and toon and dynamics but I dont recall the details. This was out of the US office things could be different out of other sales offices.

cheers, good shopping.

Months ago, I got the S&T/8.5 upgrade to my XL bundle just fine. Much of the upgraded functionality in 8.5 is to Advance Render, found in both XL & Studio. You'll benefit quite well. Keep in mind that the upgrade will only enhance/patch the modules that you currently own. So, if you only own the core R8 (instead of XL or Studio) then you won't fully reap the benefits of 8.5. I wouldn't worry so much. You'll be fine. As long as you have a recognized/legit R8 serial number then the $495 upgrade price should hold true. You shouldn't have any conflicts or bad order issues.
