it would be cool to see the indian version translated back to english as well. it would end up like a whole new superhero altogether, with all new stories and twist on a classic theme.

Hahah. Think globally, act locally.

It´s kind interesting to see India as the focus of economy today.
India in the past was one of the first great if not the first great civilization of the world. Before being raped and robbed by England, it was one of richest countries beside China.
And they also have one of the richest cultures in the world.
Ah, I´m not Indian, not in this incarnation. heheh

Damn thats good, Indian spider-man! I remember me and my bros used to joke around about how will superheroes be if they were in India and stuff- and i remember particularly talking about spiderman....

I do feel gr8 and proud (being an Indian) - seeing India is slowly coming back and becoming in focus.

Maybe the villian will be the "Green Gandhi". Ha! :D

Seriously, I like the art style. Kind of a neat idea, take a popular franchise and localize it for a particular culture/geographic region. You could translate a lot of comic book heroes, such as Batman.

I'd like to see some of the same thing but brought to the West. I'm tired of seeing the same old thing over and over...

So will the work for this project be done in India or will it be outsourced...;)

This is good if done well. Reading the article there is to be an alternative to the green goblin drawing on local mythology. India has a wealth of legend to draw on so could be very good indeed.

Ok, I'll just get comfortable with the fact that I'm the only one who thinks that this is so totally gonna suck. The good thing is since I'm not, nor do I plan to be in India anytime soon, I won't ever see it; I guess that makes it okay. Hmmm...I wonder if this is one of those "out of sight out of mind things"? But wait...I SAW IT!!!!:argh:

I find this thread somewhat funny when you compare it to the Americanized anime thread in General... Very differing opinions on roughly the same thing...

The New Costume looks cool but the idea seems Horrible.

Spidey out of NY is no longer Spidey. The City is as big a part of Spiderman as the costume is.

I mean people recognize NY there like hey thats the Empire State Building. hey those Water towers that Spidey just got tossed into really are on the roof of alot of buildings. I mean im sure it will do well in India but if they are totaly changing the story and everything in it why not just change the name along with it.

Think of it as similar to DC comic's Elseworlds. :)

Similar hero concept, different setting, different timeline.

hmmm... correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Spidey's suit skin-tight spandex not to cause all the women-folk to lust after the guy, but to maximize on aero-dynamics and agility? that loin cloth just seems cumbersome.

Haha, other than it being fun for Indians, it just screams milking of a franchise.

I agree. Face it, this is no different than someone taking a Japanese Anime and changing all of the characters into white Americans in order to appeal to American audiences. This is a horrible idea. This is NOT Spider-man, it's marketing executives trying to squeeze as much money out of this franchise as possible. I also agree about Spidey being linked to NY, I can't imagine him swinging about the "skyscrapers" of New Delhi.

How can you say that though? This is not something to make more money, considering the amount of work they are doing on it.. You don't put this much effort into something just to make a "quick buck"

And I wouldn't consider this the same thing as anime (in context) Since I'm not sure which particular anime was completely redone? I mean COMPLETELY. re-drawn, re-historyized, re-everything...

And what exactly don't you like about this? Can't be the drawings since they are top notch from what I have seen so far, story seems like it will be a solid one. And locations seem to be in proper working order..

Also were you against Kevin Smiths remaking of the great superheros? Because this is essentially the same thing..

Personally I say more power to em, sounds like a great project, and something Indians can really look up to now? (though im not caught up on my indian hero lore) I would gladly read this series though, sounds very interesting.

The costume design looks neat. As for the "maximize on aero-dynamics" comment, well, let's talk to Superman about his cape:)

The "Peter Parker" charater design needs some work though. It looks a little to Anglo. Since "Peter" was a nerd, abused or ignored by the regular high school culture, it would be *neat* if he was drawn more like a low caste Indian.

Who say anything about a "quick buck"? I just said their motivation is money. Doesn't matter how much work they put into it, because the ultimate goal is simply to taylor it to a specific audience and in the process disregard the original mythos and storyline completely.

And I wouldn't consider this the same thing as anime (in context) Since I'm not sure which particular anime was completely redone?
It was a hypothetical statement. Although, many would argue that Disney films such as the Lion King were more than "inspired" by Japanese anime (Kimba the White Lion). Also, I've read about plans to remake Akira into a live action film, but the characters would all be changed into white folks, and the setting would be a Neo-LA rather than Neo-Tokyo. I'm pretty sure the film was cancelled though.

I mean COMPLETELY. re-drawn, re-historyized, re-everything....
Seems like quite the waste of time. Why call it "Spider-man" if so much is being COMPLETELY changed? Oh yea, $$$$$.

And what exactly don't you like about this? Can't be the drawings since they are top notch from what I have seen so far, story seems like it will be a solid one. And locations seem to be in proper working order..
Simply adding a loin-cloth on top of the original costume is not "top-notch" IMO. The story may be interesting, but again, it's NOT Spider-man.

No, your right, it isnt Spider-Man, its Indian Spider-Man.

Why call it spiderman, well lets see... the story involves a spider, turning into a radio active spider, biting a boy, transfering its powers to the boy, boy now acts like a spider, erm, i think i would call that.... spider-like-man or, the human spider! or guy that can crawl on walls and shoot web like a spider! but certainly not Spider-Man, no way, thats inconcievable!

AND, that doesnt look like a loin cloth to me.... :/ a loin cloth is what tarzan wears...

and re kimba the white lion and disney stealing the ideas, that is just that, stealing of ideas, this however is spider-man, just simply set in india, using indian culture, backdrops, and current afairs.. they arnt renaming the hero (other than his actual name) to anything else, they arnt calling him Spidey-Boy or any crap like that, the guy is still spider-man...

OK then. I guess you would be the first in line to see a new (hypothetical) Japanese version of The Lord of the Rings with Samurai and Ninjas replacing Wizards and Orcs? I mean, as long as there is an evil magical ring, who cares if they change EVERYTHING ELSE for the sake of selling more tickets? What is the point of making Peter Parker an Indian? Seems like Marvel feels that Indian audiences are incapable of identifying with characters who are different from them. That seems pretty insulting to the audience.

AND, that doesnt look like a loin cloth to me.... :/ a loin cloth is what tarzan wears...
Uh, it's a loincloth dude. Indians call it a dhoti. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=dhoti

What's with American companies catering to India and China? "Oh they have the largest population, it's easier to cater to their demographic. We'll make more money by shear volume. If they haven't seen it then it must be new to them."
There's already a great entertainment industry set in India. There's no need for this rehashed trash.

hmm...i would say, their research is a lil off...not many of young kids in india can relate to dhoti now..(at least in the main cities)...

and why not create a "new character" was my first thought...or maybe take up (buy?) an established character like "nagraj" (http://www.rajcomics.com/HERO%20OF%20RAJ%20COMICS/NAGSA.HTM) or "super commando dhruv (http://www.rajcomics.com/HERO%20OF%20RAJ%20COMICS/DHRUVSA.HTM)"...with an established fanbase...and take them to new levels...

(use to like them, wish they improve the art...but i know they have no money!)

anyways.. a big welcome to spidey in india...:D

hrm.... i thought the dhoti was those white pants they have on...? and if it is.. maybe my definition of loincloth is wrong? hmm oh well

i agree with you though that it could be considered offensive.. and now that i think of it... i wouldnt want any anime to be transcreated to suit canada... i like anime because its different... hmmm ohh i make a bad arguement by agreeing lol

ah well, i have nothing against spiderman indian style, art looks good, and im sure the story will be pretty good.. i'd read it.. guess it really does boil down to matter of opinion? :/ :p
