I think it's a very nice idea and has lots of potential, the style works well and the characters are quite convincing although a little generic. The bobbing of the male artists head needs reducing drastically and probably replaced with a more natural motion as he studies his work, this is also true for his hand that simply seams to move laterally.

The filling in effect of the painting work is well executed with good pace and builds naturally in detail, however the transitions between the painting and the artists need to be much smoother, I think simply having them in a static pose that they then move from seamlessly would look good.

Great work and ideas on this though, I hope you will revisit it at some time as it would work even better with some work on improvement.

I love the concept, but the animation doesn't hold up too well. No blinking, and no eye movements, especially with that amount of head movement, really hurts the animation. And it really doesn't look like either of them are painting, it just looks like they're waving their arms back and forth.
