Hello Everyone:
As a programmer by day I have an interesting question (at least I think so). Does anyone know of a plugin, or plugins, for use with C4D that are either open source development, or source can be made available? I think thinking this would naturally only apply to free plugs (obviously), but I am naturally curious to see how people have solved various problems programmatically.

Also, as a programmer I only ask because I am curious...not because I want to take someone's source and steal it (just so we're clear :)).

Hmmm...

C4D comes with the SDK and lots of example code.

thanks for the guys at future-bytes (http://www.future-bytes.com/index.php?action=terra4d&lang=en).

Good question Aurety, is it? Would you happen to have a link handy?

found on idea-graphics site :

The code of all the plugins Klaus Karlhuber wrote for idea-graphics is complete, well commented and organized. However, we at idea-graphics don't have the necessary skills in this special field for further developing his work.

It was Klaus' last will that the plugins he wrote should become available to the Cinema 4D community without commercial interest, and so be it. Currently we are evaluating ways to achieve this while also ensuring open access to the source code for further non-commercial development by others, as a kind of memorial project for Klaus Karlhuber.

As you may imagine, this is a rather complicated issue, so if you have time, ideas or other resources to contribute to this effort, please let us know. We're wide open to suggestions - please contact raffael.friedrich@idea-graphics.de.

I mentioned open sourcing the project in the original thread,
but for some reason many people seemed to think that was a bad idea,
and others immediately started talking about how much it should cost.
For good reasons (supporting the original authors family),
but still disregarding the original poster.

I think open sourcing it would be a great idea,as it would ensure that it would remain available to the community,
AND it would be an awesome learning tool for people that want to get into the C++ API,
or at least it could be made to be such.

Just my thoughts on the matter tho.

There was a post a while back asking for volunteers. I'm a developer and offered to help with code but was told no one seemed to be responding to offers for help.

There is also the Rib exporter and NLin shader...both have source code available at their respective pages.
