View Full Version : How do I create a log file? mental ray/batch rendering
Undseth 06-23-2004, 08:56 PM I tried out the log flag for batch rendering with mental ray from command line, but could not locate the name-give-logfile afterwards.
I was hoping it would create a file containing the detailed translation usually printed from the output window in maya.
Can someone please tell me what I did wrong?
I typed this:
render -log nameofthelogfile -r mr LastTest.mb

ugh... yes. it doesn't let you choose the log file name!
The renderer name should come before other args (I think)
Render -r mr -log 1 -v 5 LastTest.mb
A log file called "mentalray.log" will be created in the CURRENT directory.
(-v 5 is to increase verbosity. If the verbosity is too low, the log file might be empty)
Well, at least now I know where to find the log file.

Thank you jooki!
I "set" the project and saved a small test scene. I did a batch render and searched for mentalray.log and found it at C:\Documents and Settings\yourname.
This is great!
Now that you also pointed out my error of placing the flag at the wrong place, I will check out the other handy flags for batch rendering.

This is nice. Saving the batch-render commands in a batch file (notepad saved as renderme.bat), and putting that file on my desktop, makes mental ray output the logfile onto my desktop. That is nice!
Hmm using the -log 1 -v 5 flags seems to discard the log info, usually seen in both the output window, now it is missing in the command prompt window, it stops listing stuff after a bunch of "Prog: xxx" lines and ending with an "Info: xxx"
