View Full Version : fur changing color on me

hi all,

i am having trouble using fur. i have a deer with 2 fur descriptions on it. the first is a general brown mixture of fur which is deriving its base color and tip color from a file texture map.

the second fur description is some long white hairs in specific areas around hooves and such.

so both descriptions have a baldness map to control the placement of the fur. the first general one covers most of the body. the second is in certain areas on top of the first, so that you have some long white hairs growing out of areas. geee, i hope that part makes sense.

my problem is this. whenever i try to paint a direction for the white hairs, as soon as i do it and then do a render, i lose ALL the color from the first hair description, it all turns to shades of gray. i have tried baking textures etc. this fur tool does not seem to work very well at all . . . ugh, i hope this all makes sense, i am just a bit frustrated at this point. why doesn't alias clean these tools up? i am using maya 5.0.1. btw, does it work any better in 6.0?
