View Full Version : Short film: "Bagel 2"
06-20-2004, 01:19 PM
I'm pleased to finally post my animated short film "Bagel 2" today, which I've been working on for the past several months.
The story is inspired by the recent European mission to Mars, where a little robot called Beagle 2 wasn't quite up to the task and the Americans once again (rightfully!) took all the fame. This film shows my take on the whole situation...
The short is currently available for download in Quicktime format:
Download (http://home.t-online.de/home/minning.berlin/bagel320.mov) (6.4mb)
And here are a few stills, for those who cannot or don't want to download the whole film. There are some more stills up for view on my website (http://www.minning.de/Works/Bagel2).
Anyway, I've done my presentation at Uni last friday and it was rather well received, so I'm interested in what you at CGTalk have to say about it...
Please enjoy the film!

Thanks for the replies so far, guys!
But according to my logs, the film has already been downloaded 180 times, yet I see only so few replies. Is there a problem with the Quicktime format, or should I provide it in another format as well?
Come on, please let me have some more comments and critiques!
Pretty good stuff. I like the way you gave the vehicle some character and emotion. Well done there.

At begining, you should express this little robot owning more power and having more function.than finally this story will be more wonderfull!

Really nice piece, the shading looks great! Very atmospheric... Animation is good, only thing you could possibly improve is the pacing, I felt some of the shots were a bit long or unnecessary to telling the story, and in other places the cuts could be snappier like when the american craft is approaching - on the whole I found it very funny (even though I'm British)! Good work...
So..ahh..finally i'm posting.
Should be no problem to a job in a good studio.;-)
Because .. i was there at the presentation, and the people got totally wild on this one...and throw things on each other. Trust me they break out when they see this. - Just joking. To the movie:
I like the whole idea and story and last but not least the shaders.
I never saw that in use by a stundent. The character is a very smart little guy,
like the Pixar Lamp (don't know if it's got a name).
My only, only ... one and only critique..uas is the liquid stuff that he is losing.
I guess it's his oil. I know it is diffcult to animate liquid and this one is nice, but looks kind of strange in the scene. How it goes out of the engine.
Maybe the point that, it's look a little bit like a Pixar short.
With the Robot scene at the beginning :) - but otherwise Pixars movies are
associated every time and everywhere.
@ last ...i am sorrrry for myiii englisch but .... no no no everybody wrote this ;-)...FINALLY - Admins ....hello "boup" "boup" FRONTI PAGI und zwar schnelli... F.R.O.N.T.P.A.G.E F.O.R.E.V.E.R !!!

very nice renders indeed...BUT: not reall y funny is it? way too long for this little story to build up. maybe re-edit and try to break it down to really important shots. good and lots of work anyway:-)
