Hai, fist time to post here. And first time to model something.Got a modeling question: Have made a half head with spline. Have mirrored the other have. I have attached the 2 and want 2 weld the vertices. But it doesn't work. Why? Probebly I'm skipping something but I don't know why.
In a few day's I will have some webspace. And I will post the image there.

Can anyone help me for the moment?
O, I work in Max 4.0.

Thanks

Check weld threshhold and that the vertices are close enough together...

Well it's worth a try!

Yep, did that but it doesn't work. Did some digging in the tutorial (rhino head) and I found out that I did this head a little bit diffrent then when I did this tut.
In the tut the say that too attach the other side you select the original half, then click attachbutton and then click the other half. Well it doesn't work for me ( I thougt I attached them but it seems not ). I'll try again.

activate 3D-Snap for vertices and move the first
vertex over the second now they have exactly the
same coordinates :)

As long as your verts are overlapping - selecting them and hitting weld should work...

But -

If you are using surface tools (I assume that you are), when you've mirror/copied the other half of the head, delete the Segmenst that make up the vertical side of the edge you are trying to attach.

It's hard to express what I mean - but basically if you imagine that the horizontal splines are going to match up when you weld the verts together - but there will be two segments overlapping one another in the vertical... So you delete the segments from that edge.

As the others said - the only other problem would be that of Threshold - but once again, if they're overlapping that shouldn't matter.

If this still doesn't help - post up a screen shot of your model problem...

G'luck! :D

Oh - just quickly rereading you original posts...

Were you working with mirrored instances/references?

If so you will have to click "make unique" in your modifier stack before you can attach the other half.

Thanks guys, i'll try again.

By the way, i used instance ( didn't know i had 2 make them unique ). I did a test with copy and that worked.

Will keep you guys informed if it all worked out and post the head in a few days on my website.
