Job Description: Deputy Director of Software,
Advanced Stereoscopic Imaging Laboratory
Major Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director of Content in the Advanced Stereoscopic Imaging Laboratory is responsible to build infrastructure, hire, manage, retain and execute on development of a broad range of stereoscopic software products.
The Deputy Director reports to the Director of Stereoscopic Imaging and works cross-functionally within InventQjaya Labs, InventQbation, InventQengineering, VRexJaya, Finance, and externally with customers and partners for collaboration.
Duties:
1. Responsible to carry out and manage staff working on the
following projects.
a. SterVu: Utilize tools developed by the SterVu team to provide
a 2D to 3D content conversion service.
b. Manara to Islamic Heritage: Create a network of 3D cameras
around the world and link them into a single exhibit in various
museums.
c. Production Studio: Create a general-purpose studio capable of
handling 3D content generation using multimedia, video,
animation and other means to develop a vast library of 3D
content. Deliver quarterly content on DVD and/or CD-ROM.
d. Other projects as they are identified.
2. Strategic planning and execution for success of the Lab.
3. Develop a content development plan and a strategic business
plan.
4. Recruit, hire and supervise Production Managers.
5. Build and manage the required physical and organizational
infrastructure.
6. Carefully manage and adhere to the budget of the lab.
7. Manage the content portfolio and content/service roadmap for
the Lab.
8. Manage the Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio of the Lab to
assure that the full value of this IP is protected and realized.
9. Manage the day-to-day operation of the Lab.
10. Initiate and lead the spin-off activities for the most promising
technologies. Help recruit and hire management staff for new
spin-off companies and lead the effort to transfer
technologies into products of these new companies.
11. Prepare the annual budget and report financial results.
12. Responsible for identifying advanced stereoscopic imaging
technologies and initiate projects to explore these frontier
areas.
13. Ensure the continued development and advancement of 3D
products at InventQjaya.
14. Interface with Sales/Marketing for product definition,
development, and promotion.
15. Responsible to seek funding (internally and externally) for
project ideas proposed. For internally projects, strong
justifications for the project feasibility and return of
investment should be provided. For external projects, the
funding sources should be actively searched and proposals
will be prepared for funding opportunity.
16. Provides cross-functional support for other laboratories
projects, as needed.
17. Provide contract service to outside companies for developing
and manufacturing stereoscopic imaging products.
Performance Metrics:
The manager’s performance will be evaluated and compensated according to the following performance metrics:
1. Quality and time performance of projects A through E listed
above.
2. Number and quality of advanced stereoscopic imaging projects
established and funded (internally or externally)
3. Quality of project execution
a. IP generated during project execution
b. Feasibility to transfer developed technology into InventQbation
Phase.
4. People & Organization Related:
a. Planning, Scheduling & Organizational skills
b. Team building skills
c. Cross functional communications and interactions
d. Decision capabilities
e. Hiring
f. Performance Management:
i. Personal objectives and measures for self and each employee
ii. Personal objectives reviewed on a quarterly or semiannual
basis
iii. Coaching & Development plans (owned by the subordinates,
but supported by Director) included in objective plans
iv. Yearly evaluations
Must Qualifications:
The Deputy Director of Software in the Advanced Stereoscopic Imaging lab Laboratories must have the following minimum qualifications:
• A BS, MS, or Ph.D. in science and engineering areas, or
equivalent experience
• Work in visualization aspects of software development (2 years)
• Program/Project Management experience (5 years)
• Excellent communication, speaking and writing abilities in
English.
• Technical management experience (5 years)
• Ability to efficiently execute projects, develop proposals and
create intellectual property.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
