View Full Version : fixed length curve plugin...
anthonymcgrath 07-23-2002, 08:42 AM can anyone tell me if this is useful? I want to model a necklace off of a character I'm on with and was thinking of using softbodies and springs. would the fixed length plugin help here?
also if anyone has any ideas on creating a necklace, let me know. bear in mind I want it to move around my characters neck and there's a couple of shots whereby he pulls a bead off his chain so I want it to be affected in the appropriate manner.
cheers,
love ya all!

this plugin is very usefull. think of an spline ik (for spine e.g.). with the plugin the spine will always stay at the same length (and this is what it naturally does, it stretches just a little bit).
for your necklace. we've done it simply by parenting/binding to one of the neck bones and then use correction clusters to drive eventually upcoming intersections.

that sounds cool man. I'll dl it.
as for the necklace, did u use this plugin with your described method? My plan is to use the fixedlength to stop the nurb curve from stretching when I apply softbodies. I could use springs and have gotten some nice results but thought i'd check out the response on this plug first.
I want the character to remove a bead from his necklace and when he pulls it off, I want the necklace to be pulled with the bead before falling to rest on his chest again.
cheers man.

wouldn't use softbodies at all for the necklace. just bones/lattices/clusters. you will have greater control how it behaves. the plugin can be usefull for the necklace, indeed. for removing the bead, i would group each bead before binding and bind the groups instead of the beads. it will give you the freedom of moving the beads while the groups are still bound.

hi svenip,
another method I used was rigidbodies and constraints to each one but that weren't really a good option. worked fairly well tho for about 8 or nine beads then I just locked the bead at the back to the skeleton.
could you run thru how I'd set this necklace up with your bone/lattice/cluster method.
I've got my bones method down but cant understand how it would work on a necklace. I'm very much using bones on char's and animals.
I'm well versed in the other methods too but its the actual approach on setting this up I'm lost on.
How much control do I get over the necklace and how much is automated with this method.
sorry to sound like I'm hassling but I'm really curious.
