View Full Version : environment - underground city wip
Bonzo 06-17-2004, 03:06 AM Well, as some of you have been participating in the Daily Sketch Forum, you will recognize this topic. I started with a pencil/paper sketch of an underground city, and then digitized it into photoshop. I spend way longer than one day on it, and I would really like to get some feedback during the creation process of this image. so, without further ado.. my wip of my underground city.

I'm trying to reproduce a Samuri Jack / Spongebob look here
please tell me what you think..
how can you make this better?
needs lighting?
wrong color?
needs more mood?
detail?
should i rip it in half???
that's what i thought
thanks for viewing!

How do you suggest I go about applying textures to this image? I don't exactly want to manually produce each pixel of color, but still want some type of gradieated texture.
i will post some reference pics later.

Hey Bonzo, what kind of rock, erm. . . graphics program are you using here? Looks clean enough to be Illustrator -- you've made a nice start. My suggestion is to start with the shrubbery in the extreme foreground. Add enough detail like leaves and branches until you're satisfied, then move onto the next closest object -- the minaret at center. Indicate bricks or stucco, some shading, etc. As you work backwards use less and less detail as it wouldn't be apparent to the naked eye. The spires in the back need very little in the way of detail or shadow, maybe a couple of lights from window. The golds and purples work very well together to give a dusky look, and they're usually used to signify royalty. One thing I'd change is the placement of the road. IMO it should wind through the archway and lead directly to the first spire -- security purposes you know. The gray doesn't fit. I'd go for a sandy cobblestone look. Can't wait to see how this comes out. Good luck.
