View Full Version : 2D Interface for website: A MUST SEE!!
torbjorn 06-16-2004, 03:17 PM Ok, so yesterday I fiddled around, just to see what I could come up with as a new design for my website (soon to be a freelancer by the way). The site is resized a little bit, it's normal size is width 1024* but this one is, I think 770*
This is what I got so far: shakedandstirred

nice design,
not a lot of place for content though. Is this a template for the whole site or just the welcome screen ?

Good question! Though, I saw that one coming! I'm a mighty man, i am, let's say, just a tad in the future of thinking :-)

nice and elegant solution !
still, don't like to scroll too much to read
on a 'normal' lcd this leaves about half a page of text,
wich is doable if you use that space wisely...
cool colours and design though
cheers

Your whole page seems pretty good, but I really hate the trend that has been going around for the past while with really small text.. (I had to really nitpick to find something to crit, so take that as a compliment :) ) If anything, if your going for something different from all the other webpages out there, (and your design seems to speak of this) I would rethink this aspect of your title image.
I don't know where this style came from and why people do it, but its really annoying. Its not to bad on your page since you dont need to look/squint at it to figure out whats going on.. I really hate those pages that hide a tiny little size 7 enter button then place it amid tons of other bits of text. If I can't find the navigational buttons on a site in less than 3 seconds, I leave..
Your site is nice right now.. just.. don't go overboard with the tiny text future boy ;) :)

Thanks a bunch guys!!! So, the text on the BIG title image seems a little small? Ok, that's one of the things i'm in progress of re-doing. The site was actually like 1060* wide earlier, but when i choped it up as pieces¨, i re-sized it to be 900* wide...Then, the text in the top became really small...I'll jyst remake the top image a bit...I'll see what I can do about the rest of the page...
I'm currently working on a solution where 1024* users will be directed to a "1024*" site, while people over 1024, will come to a site that is optimized for a greater resolution...nice huh?

looking pretty tight, i was a bit concerned that it was going to take forever to load with an image like that on the main page, but it surprised me with it's quickness. i do agree with the tiny type comment, however it is done right and with the right typeface the tiny type problem isn't so much a problem. if you decide to keep it, take a look online for pixel fonts, they're made to be used at small sizes but keep legibility. other than that looks good

Obviously the site is extremely sleek and stylish. Eye Candy type stuff, that's good.
I do find it extremely irritating having to scroll every new page to see the content. I think you must try to find a way to have the page already scrolled to center the content of the clicked page. The gallery for example, has none of the pictures on the actual page. It's full of that intro crap which wears thin for someone who just wants to get to your content. It was the same when i clicked for the quicktime. For one, why doesn't it start playing on its own (ok, that's minor) but for two, the quicktime screen is off the page, so you have to scroll down to see it. Too much work.
A possible solution: You might consider having that intro screen scroll up and away when someone clicks on a menu option. By away I just mean collapse so that the menu buttons are still visible, but content is in the middle of the screen. Maybe you can then have the option to collapse and uncollapse the control panel dealie. It might be a lot of work, but I think it's much more professional and worth the effort. Good Luck!

Hey there, thanks for the crits!!! I fixed it, so that when you come to the page, the first page, you have to scroll. when you click for example on "resume" or "portfolio" it'll load the page, but when it's loaded you'll be transferred down to where the text starts...!!
Let me know what you think of the solution...!
PS: The quicktime starts automatically now!

At anything below 1600x1200 the type is unreadable. Unless this is what you want I would suggest something to enhance the type somehow. Perhaps a dynamic element to the page. good work.
I would also work on the optimization of the image. I can see many artifacts that are a bit fatiguing to the eye after a decent length view. Work with different file-types and compression methods to see what you can get to work best. It can be done better than this for sure. With such a great image, it deserves to be displayed in top shape!

Thanks for the crit. What kind of type are you thinking of now? the one at the top image? OR, do you mean that when you enter the site, that the text isn't showing up and you need to scroll? What kind of artifacts are there? is it crispy? Bad quality?
Help me out to understand the problems :-)
