Do they need to be animated bending and stuff? If you just need them to be static (not moving), I would highly recommend the WireJumble script from the Blur script pack. Look for it over on ScriptSpot (http://www.scriptspot.com/start.htm).

Just create a spline and make it renderable.

Hi check out this tutorial, it may not appear to be what you want, but the end result is excellent (You have to go to the last page to see the end result)

What i do is, goto the Line tool...think its a spline, then draw up your cable and then, make a Spline Circle to the diameter you want your cable, then re click the cable you have just made and goto compound and Loft. then in the menu click get shape i think tis, then click the circle and you have yourself a cable in 10 seconds!

I would go with the renderable spline, cleaner, less geometry in the scene, and can be done in 5 seconds ;) ;)
