OK ... I was going to reply yesterday, but something distracted me at work (I hate when that happens).
I like the white on black. Are you planning on doing an animation like this? It would be interesting to see the application of this to the backgrounds and other characters. It certainly seems like a smart thing to do for a traditional animation (i.e. easy to color frames). It has a bold style, but very simplistic in design.
Your character looks fine, can you give us some more info on what you plan on doing with him? Without much background I can't say much other than he seems like a character suited for children's television programming.
Which isn't a bad thing ... unless you want him to be evil, sick, twisted and demented. If that's the case then I would say a re-design was in order. ;) :D
When I was a kid in Bosnia there was this cartoon on tv that was just one line. The hand would go to the screen draw this simple character on the line and he would deform the line as he walked from left to the right encountering different objects , obstacles and would call on the hand to come and draw / earase , or solve the situation so he could go on. I was really small and that stuck with me. I would love to see this again but I have no clue who made this cartoon. I think it was Italian but not positive about that. I am thinking of taking that idea by using this bold white outline around my character. Since I am not the greatest in 2d animation I would like to create him in 3d so I can rotate him zoom and things like that. Then I can export those frames and maybe trace over them in photoshop or flash for real 2d look or even render everything as a toon shader if I can pull of this in 3dmax or XSI
Now this character would be for kids... he would walk around and similarly stumble himself in certain situation.
His name is Paglu and that means in a Bosnian slag (not so smart)
So he is meant to make people laugh. Each animation would be about minute or so and would feature him in this black environment with outline objects , obstacles and maybe some other characters who knows.
Well then the style seems to fit then. I'm not a pro on 3D stuff, but you could probably do this easily with one of the toon shaders available.
Is the resizable head intentional (character feature) or just an accident that you decided to point out?
well for the expressions his head would change size since his
eyes are just dots and his mouth a line , so that feature is the key for good expressions and especially considering all the time black background
