3d studio max bugs a galore.
First of all, if you are using an illegal copy of either the plugin or max (or both) it has been stated that it is extremely prone to crashing, so i would suggest actually buying a license before posting about errors.
Second, if you did buy them, my apologies :)
What plugins are you trying to use exactly? Who manufactures them? Have you tried going to them to see if there were known bugs with Max?
Try doing a fresh install of Max, it has helped me in the past when some scene and settings used to crash it consistently.
I hope this helps you a bit :)

There's a very easy way to disable any 3rd party plug-ins if you suspect they are the reason for the max crashes...
1. Make sure 3dsmax is NOT running.
2. Go to your 3dsmax6 folder
3. Rename the folder called "Plugins" to "Plugins_old"
4. Create a new folder there called "Plugins"
5. Start 3ds max.
If max still crashes then its not because of your plug-ins but something else. In this case delete the new folder you created and rename the old folder back to "Plugins".
