View Full Version : Fog, Clouds, Sky
abductedMind 06-15-2004, 04:03 AM I am trying to figure out a simple way to create the effect of air density for my animation of an Airplane in the sky. A slight fog, light clouds. (Using Maya)
I want the Airplane to get more blue/grey and more obscured toward the distance. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

best idea for that is rendering the animation with a depth channel and then later in a compositing app add the desired distance fog..
if you dont have access to a comp app, check the maya fog in the manuals. they do the same action but are rendered in your image directly (which makes it harder to tweak)
cheers

I have since tried to use environment fog but, Z-Depth would probably be an easier way to accomplish the task. hmm...I have not been able to accomplish the desired effect with Env Fog yet.
I'll try both and see which is best.
Thanks

Alternately, you could cheat this by having your plane layer simply lose saturation and contrast as it recedes from the camera. It may not be perfect but it could work with some finagling.

Deathbrain, one of the members here has a nice fog file
on his site (search for him maybe?)

added to wrabbits idea of keying contrast and saturation is also keying a blur as it moves away from the camera ( so long as this is on a seperate channel in a compositing channel ).
