Simply the best anatomical model i've ever seen. Perfect in all regards.
You should feel a great sense of pride. You deserve to.
I'd love to know your overall method of creation. I'm guessing this was all free hand with alot of reference. Or did you perhaps make detailed drawings, and use them to create the shapes?
Anyway, can't say enough good things about your work. Love the website.
Very inspiring.

That's amazing.Looks very realistic.
Did you use a skull model underneath the skin ?

Thanks for the response, people!
JuRrAsStOiL:
I'm using Maya 3.0 for modeling.
Rendered by V-Ray.
3DZealot:
This girl is modeled very simply -- polygon by polygon.
Reference photo of people and anatomical books I'm using for anatomy study.
Most likely it was free hand with a lot of reference.

Now the model doesn't any bones.

well, the model is great, but there is one little detail
I'm wondering about. The upper eyelid (is it called
like that? don't know). It looks like it closed but,
the whole eye is wide open. the lower eyelid is
perhaps a bit too low and the upper one too...
Well, I'm not really sure about it

I Agree with JuRrAsStOiL, however just for the lower eyelid, which I think it should come tangent with the bottom of the iris.

wow... uh.. wow
i've been criticing human models for quite a while. and always noticed that the models of the best "synthespians" it was always the texture maps that made the piece, while the model itself was often over simplisyic, and in my opinion, not realistic at all.
this is possibly the most realistic head i've seen(at least concerning "subtle head, an old man, or muscleiar is easier becuase there are less rules when chisleing out wrinkles and other exagerated items.)
not only that.. but you managed to make her quite pretty.:)
you are an amazing artist and i look forward to the continuation of this project and other to come.

Thats awesome.
I wouldnt change the eyes too much, I can see your trying to give her those puppy dog eyes. I reckon they look good... maybe a little bit of tweaking...
Also theres something not quite right about the brow (maybe)- the transition over the eyes, where the bit above the eye puffs out. maybe bit of the brow above the nose could be moved down a bit. Im not sure.
Just being picky though, it's perfect as it is. Hehe, im just trying not to be useless and just saying wow

07-31-2002, 08:23 AM
I think you're a great sculptor, syomka. But I agree with the other comments about the eyelids. A bit too low. Kind of looks like your avatar's eyes. And the corners of the upper lip look a bit thick when the mouth is open. Umm... I also didn't like the toes, especially the toenails - never mind.
I comment because it's WIP. Your skills are amazing. Nice to see a master at work.
...although some people do have droopy upper lids like that -perhaps she is modelled after someone specific.
I know it's a test render, but she looks slightly cross eyed and as if she's about to sneeze ;)
However, I say again, YOUR MODELLING SKILL IS AMAZING.

I just looked at the headwires and was horrified to find that you have even modelled inside the nostrils accurately.
Also noticed you have 6 polys sharing a single vertex. In LW this would result in a crease and shading artefact, but evidently not in Maya. Hmmmm...

May this thread live forever! Normally this is the level of quality in modelling where I would start to think to myself, "Okay, the modelling's perfect, but where is the CHARACTER in this character?" But this girl has so much personality show through her face -- more than I have expected or thought possible in the past. (Heh, I guess there's a possibility that the features are just from a people I am not used to seeing and are really very generic somewhere, but I rather doubt it.) I'd better stop gushing all over you now. Thanks for the great reference, and great work! :applause:

the fourth hair of Anna I like me a lot, she seems really pretty,
texture it Peter!!! , together the girls of Steven Stalhgber and the work of René Morel, the work most realistic than it was seeing in all this time, I don't find none bug of proportion, for myself is perfect.
guy you be stunning to all, is amazing, keep up it!!
Insane attention to detail! I've never seen anyone model the inside of their character's nostril. The mesh is really clean, not a poly out of place. Great job!
The bottom left style for Anna looks really cool. It's kinda Byorkish. It would make a really memerable and different 3D pic.

More lower body closeups.. :) great stuff, great detail... Good luck with the UV's. Too hard to pick this one apart... I like the eyes, but the upper lids seem a bit heavy to me...however, that's just my taste, and it looks great.

Looks great, I really like the facial expressions.
One though sorta looks a little wierd, the smile.
She seems as though she is faking it and curling the corners of her lips across her teeth. like she is smiling and getting ready to squirt water between her teeth.
Also her eyelids would not be as relaxed, slightly tenser in a more raised position.
I do realize it is still a W.I.P, but other than those little things it is beautiful, totaly awesome work.
Like others, cannot wait to see a animation and some hair, @ least eyebrows, eye lashes.:)

Stupendous work!
This is definitely one of the finest examples of a CG person. One thing that bothers me a little is the eyelids: they seem a little droopy and too relaxed in the default and relaxed expressions. The smile and teeth-licking poses are exquisite

syomka... this is most excellent work! There are no words in English, or probably any other language, to describe how much this model amazes and inspires me on so many levels!
I have to say I love all the expressions as well.. very original and unique to her character. Actually, I think her expressions resemble those of Katie Holmes. If that was planned, nice choice! If not, still can't go wrong with her. heh...
Anyway, please keep up the incredible work! I have read all of your posts for this model and can't wait to see more! I think next I would like to see some long, flowing brunette hair... can't lose with that! Great job!

how are you getting the GI/SSS look to the render out of maya? Im assuming prolly an external render engine, but 1. Which one, and 2. HOW?? I've been trying to get a nice SSS look and it is really difficult.

Not that you haven't been peppered with compliments on this model, but it is the best human model that I have ever seen, including stahlberg!!BEAUTIFUL and polygons, youre my kind of artist. The attention to detail is outrageous. The perfection of the difficult areas of the face such as the eyes ears and nose are good.

Absolutely wonderful modelling here. I really like the somewhat unusual face. It's refreshing to see a face with so much unique character.
You achieve something that I find lacking in Stahlberg's work. Stahlberg can certainly model and is a talented guy, but his work can sometimes come across a little bland and "samey". I hope your work continues to be so inspiring, Syomka.
I haven't replied to this thread before due to lack of speech. It's by far the greatest human model I've seen including the FF ones. You've modeled some of the most lively expressions I can ever recall to have seen. Now, I'm usually the last one to praise realistic human models...my usual reply is "why bother?" but this is beauty in a sculptor's sense just as much as technical.
Did I say I love it?
The only thing I'll crit about is that I think her eyes are drooping a bit too much in the outer corners making her look really sleepy and I don't think it fits to the rest of the face. But since it p!sses on my stuff from great heights I'll just shut up

Thank you very much for your reply, guys.
I apologize for the delay in answering. Recently I very busy and haven't got free time.
Many of you wrote about heavy superior eyelids. Below I put another eye with different eyelid (as well WIP). But I like big and heavy upper eyelids like eyelids of Madonna, Sarah Brightman, Natalie Imbruglia.

first.
I have to repeat what everyone else has said: your work is plain amazing. Not only it looks very accurately and carefully (mesh wise) modeled but also very very alive and personal. Very very great work.
second.
I know that people want to help but I would be cautios about comments on "stlye" or "looks" like the eye lid thing. You have made very personal and very alive + beautifull character. By "normalizing" every feature it might lose its magic and become high quality poser model, if you understand what I mean. Obviously you have the art thing on strong basis and can make your own mind without my comments - just wanted to say that keep your vision.

Ahaa... I thought I kinda recognised the face. There is certainly a strong element of Sarah Brightman in Anna's face, Peter.
I'm sure your wire postings will prove to be a great source of reference for many modellers. Very clean mesh!
I look forward to seeing what you do next with this character. Especially the hair.
I don't know if you have already said, if so, I'm sorry for asking again. How long did this model take to build?

Amazing character ,a lot of emotion.Good continuation:thumbsup:
I aggree so much about not making her too perfect! Oh and I also like heavy eyelids like those of Natalie Imbruglia
but yours are heavy only on the outside and it...doesn't look right to me :)
The heavy eyelid feeling comes I think rather from the upper eyelid crossing most of the pupil but not the iris and the fold above the eyelid being relatively high, as if the person perpetually tries to pry the eye open but it still falls shut.
Anyway, I can't wait to see her in a scene!
PS: Heya Pixopath, didn't know you were in here too...love your models!

I have been putting off attempting human realism for some time now... I have never tried. I always want to but never started because I want to be able to show the first one to people with pride...

it is absolutely stunning and inspiring
so much so that i had to save the pics in my hdisk for reference...
i noticed something about the facial expressions that you made, which i think will not look natural when you animate it:
Mainly the change in the mouth position for anna in the relaxed postion (anna01.jpg) is slightly open compared to the default (anna00.jpg); however there is no corresponding drop in the jaw line? i think you should add that, even if only a very small amount...
oh, i totally like how you made the "ooh" lip pose assymetrical! that's absolutely great
and the corresponding widening of the nostril base for the smile! aaarrrrggghhhh.... you the man!

Hi..
I'm new here but I've been looking trough your previous posts of Anna and I must say... your attention to detail is amazing!
Curently I'm working on a female model aswell.. however i'm having some troubles.. I think I've made a big mistake. Without giving it much thought, I've been modeling in an orthographic view port.
After reading your reply to derbyqsalano I did a test render of my my model through a camera with the FOV set to 36 degrees and it looks REALLY BAD unless the camera is pulled very far back..
(I don't know much about cameras)
If this is the way it should look in reality. I think i've made a big newbie mistake.
Have I been modeling in the wrong view port all this time?
Do you model in prespective view?
Are the pictures you've been posting renderd in the perspective view or through the camera
below are my 2 renders.. Help! please...

he seems to be the best organic modeller. bar none.

I would really love to see an animation .avi of this model going thru the various facial expressions that you have posted pictures for.
This is the most impressive and most realistic 3D model I have ever seen.
I haven't read all of the replies throughout this thread, but how many actual working hours have you spent on this?
I read one post mentioning skin color for this model. To be honest once you go to start adding texturing and the like to this model for the finished product I would not change the skin tone/color at ALL. The skin tone/color you have chosen is perfect.

Hi
I have yet to see a model that even comes close to the perfection of this. Your wireframes have taught me more about modeling than 3 years of University did.
Don't know what else to say
You is da man, no doubt about it!

please don't change the eyes - they're great just the way they are, they give the most character to this woman :). otherwise they'll just turn out all generic.
and if you don't know yet: YOU ROCK :)

One of the first CG models I saw, and all the time I'm trying to reach such skills in 3d modeling and anatomy knowledge. This is an example of perfect anatomy modeling for me. Just nothing to crit - this one continues to be the best.
its good thing you guys reply to this thread after more then two years

Wow, this thread is still alive? With close to 100.000 views Syomka is close to becoming a legend on cgtalk! Anyways, his amazing model inspired me when I started my own project (the first time was probably about 2 years ago). And it still stands out today as one of the best cg character models.
Congratulations Syomka, your a legend! :)

I remember this model from way back when i first signed onto CGTALK and it still is as perfect as the first day! What can I say? Truly a magnificent model and absolutely dead on physiology, eager to see what you have next.

Hey this is excellent modelling here. Very cool!!!
Only thing that strikes me as off is that at the outer part of the eyes that baggy part should have more effect on her upper eyelide, they seem to be floating separately now. Gravity would create some interactions there I think.
Otherwise kicks some serious a**! And thanks for turntable ref of the woman, was looking for something like that!
:scream: great

though the model is very life-like on the most part, there were a couple things that bugged me, like generally the top of the ear aligns with the brow, the ear on the model appears too low. also with the eye tests I am seeing, the spec seems a bit too high and maybe the bump is a bit too strong making the skin look wet and not just have that sheen.... otherwise, some really superb modeling and skinning.
