I'm a bit of an amateur, I have managed to model easy stuff such as stereos, monitors, in other words alot of technical stuff, but I would like to move on to organic and character modeling. I have a fairly good template here: http://ator.my100megs.com/_framed/my100megs/ator/images/glorps.jpg

But as I start I just sit there and do nothing because I have no clue how to start. I have managed to model the rhino in the Max tutorials. It turned out quite allright.

A detailed description of how to start would be appriciated, don't worry about the finishing job, I'd like to figure that part myself.

A general description would be good, for universal organic and character stuff ;)

Thanks ya all that help

Nice character.

You could well model this using Surface Tools like the Rhino in Max.. but I would think you would find it far easier to do it by polygonal modelling. My suggestion is to go along to http://www.s21net.com/meshtools/ and d/l not only the plug in scripts but the two videos that are available. Even if you are on 56k they are worth it and watching them is at least as good as most of the tutorials that are on the web. At worst you will have been pointed in a different but usable direction.
Should you still want to do it with Surface Tools you can still pick up the basic principles by substituting how the mesh is constructed because constructing with splines isn't so different.

Another port of call for tutorials is to visit www.3dbuzz.com. :)
