This is Albert, something i made as a final project for school. I've animated him but because of bandwidth issues i had to take the animation offline.

Very nice skin, especially on the forhead. Clean modeling as well. There are two nitpicky things I see though.

The mouth is very sharp and lacks texturing, which immediately makes the surrounding area less believable as well.

The wrinkles at the side of the eyes are weird. They do not seem to be part of the top eyelid. This you notice mostly when the eyes are closed and the eye-line does not go to the corner of the eye, but above it.

All that said the shading and lighting is very nice indeed. Care to explain what shading/lighting system you used?

like, impressive

my only thing: when his eyes are closed on the third pic, it looks like he has 2 eye lids for the left eye (on the right of the pic ^^)

thanks, both the eye thing and the lip thing are something i'm fully aware of, just dont have time to fix it

it is lit with 15 spotlights, depth map shadows, nothing fancy although i did use separate lights for diffuse/specular lighting

the shader is a bit too complex to explain in text, its base kinda reminds of stahlbergs skinshader, but it does a bit more fancy stuff
Not that its a huge network, it gives me a frame (pal) in about 2 minutes (hair not included) although i'm sure it could be optimized

looks pretty cool dude!

I felt that the default head looked stiff (as they usually do)... but looks like he's got some character coming through as the pictures progressed.

I'm curious to see some sample animation with him.

have you thought about using a combination of mental ray materials?
you can use a series of "shellack" materials to get the proper color tones and depth and use a sub surface scatter to get the illusion of transparency and depth in the skin like when light shines thought the skin of the ears. you might want to check out the mental ray help forum here

:) thanks everyone

da_rock21: the thing about mental ray is that it gives big render times (in comparison to maya software renderer) especially when doing sss and stuff
