Hi,

I have seen all the Maya books and have very deligent in looking at Maya examples to learn from. But unlike Max, it seems there are no professional-looking scene of a nearby riverside or water using either Mental ray or default Maya renderer? I have tried water preset from Alias and from deno graphics - but they don't look that good. Fluids in Maya 6 barely can render in Mental ray, despite Alias claims. And I have spent countless hours adjust the Pond parameter, but couldn't get it to look professional and aethestic.

If someone comes across any tutorial or nice presets, please let me know. Thanks.

What kind of machine do you have? I can IPR fluids with mental ray with ease and they render twice as fast in mr comparitively to maya's renderer.

As far as your question goes, I don't think fluids is what you want for water anyway. You can get some pretty decent results with the ocean shader.

Bill,

I have a fairly fast machine Pentium 4 2.8 HT. The ocean shader is what I meant in the rowboat example. I can't seem to adjust the pond or the ocean shader to get the nice small river or pond look (not the ocean look) on Mental Ray.
