View Full Version : max 6 and it's plugins
paulselhi 06-12-2004, 03:18 PM having a look at the max 6 fire plugin i see that it is basically the same as the afterburner commercial plugin, is the max version a watered down version of afterburner ?
Similarly the new particle flow system...is the digimation particle studio product now redundant or does the studio product have mich more functionality that warrants it's use ?
Your thoughts views experiences would be welcome

The built-in Fire Effect (formerly known as Combustion, until Discreet came out with their effects package) was written by Rolf Berteig of the Yost Group as a freebie for Max 1.0 back in 1996 and has as much in common with Afterburn as a stone age arrow has with an F-16 fighter jet (both can fly and kill people, but...)
Afterburn IS THE BEST commercially available volumetrics package on any platform Period.
Particle Studio was developed by the same programmer as Particle Flow (Oleg Bayborodin of Orbaz Tech http://www.orbaz.com). Particle Flow features a completely new core and UI design, bringing the original concepts of PS to a much higher level. Particle Flow supports scripting throughout the system and simply kicks bottoms. Compared to Particle Studio, it lacks a Fragmentation operator, but otherwise it is a much more flexible and refined product, combining power with easy of use.
Hope this helps.

Bobo, do you know if there are any plans to include a fragmentation operator in PS in any forthcoming release?

I know there are scripts you can load into pflow to fake it and still looks pretty good. I just don't know where they are.
