This was the first human head project that I finished.
I dont think I`ll work on it anymore for now.
But maybe I`ll work on it 6 months or a year later.

Awsome job!

Excellent work :applause:
The only crit I really have is that his skin colour is a little too pink. But other than that, great stuff

One of the best 3d faces I have ever seen.

Looks good. On the model, the ear looks a little big and not quite enough detail. The texturing is really good but there is something wierd about the specular, it doen't look right. Sorry I can't place what it is exactly.

he seems like haveing some make up too. :D

Lovely model! One thing though, is his nose not much browner than the rest of his face? (or is he just a brown noser? ) :p
It's especially evident at the top of his nose. Like HapZungLam says, it looks like makeup.

VERY cool model though.

looks very very good, no crits except for those mentioned. :buttrock:

The crease above the eye seems a bit weird and too long. The gap seems a bit too wide for it so it doesn't seem to have the weight that a normal eye has in that area.

Besides that it looks really good. Keep up the good work and post back with the rest of him completed.

Thanks for watching and I`m so happy that you guys like that.
I think he looks better if you step back 2 steps. :)

kyphur
: I tried to solve that. but that measure made him lose his
character. I still dont know how to solve that problem yet.
maybe next time when I got better at 3D, I might fix that problem. You got the good eyes.

Can you post a 3/4 render of him? Or a profile render? Fantastic work!

fastfinger
07-22-2002, 06:50 PM
do you mean 3/4 in size?
If that`s what you mean, here it is.

The reason why I rendered him in front angle is only that angle can show us his strong personality( or arrogant :) ).
But I`m sure the ears do not lack detail.
Maybe at next version. I`ll make him look good from all the angle.

I`m planning to make him a new hair and new textures at next version(maybe next year or so).

Look at his eyes as you see eyes of the people when you look at them when seeing this picture.

skin dont look oily, like hes got too much make up on. the powder crap TV reporters put on their faces.

very good, there are a few things that bother me though,

it's too symettrical
and why do almost all realistic heads have to have some DOF surrounding the edges?

kyphur
07-22-2002, 08:21 PM
Maybe you should't try to make a "true folding" of the skin but instead do a fake one with an edge crease. I don't know if you can do it in Lightwave (don't see why not) but I'm a mayaman myself. I've touched Lightwave 7.5 maybe ten to fifteen times for a couple of reasons other than modeling :p . But maybe you could do that.

This is a poor example but maybe something along the lines:
http://www.kyphurland.com/transit/eyedetailSUBD001.jpg

Also what he means by 3/4's view is can you rotate the head by about 45 degrees so we can have a 3/4's view.:D

Anyways, going to the grocery store.

he looks nice but what is that line?
(in the red thing, i put some white points on the line)

looks like you added the hair in photoshop or a similar program? is that right? try getting rid of that line, blur it out a little :)

then it will be a 6 star ;) 5 for now hehe

good work :)

fastfinger
07-23-2002, 04:04 AM
All right. You guys really do help me.
I`ll write down your words and check`em out in the next ver.

I didnt post process in photoshop.
That means I didnt add hair in other programs, that was all done in LW with sasquatch: I think that line is because of extreme dof effect. Thanks. :)

Hope you guys enjoy that.:buttrock:

Dude, Take all this critisism with a grain of salt, It's still one of the best looking CG heads I've seen, And I'm sure with more addative lighting, it would be right up there with hollywood renders. I think you've done stellar job, it's by far one of the best heads I've seen in this forum! :applause:

Really subtle change: a little more"Bad Guy" look
it`s really subtle and I like that subtleness.

Very excellent work! My only problem was with the profile and size of the ear in comparison to the head. This has been mentioned. I think that you are coming across this because you built the head from a front view without perspective.

The face is very well done and it is only a matter of how much time you have to adjust it until you are perfectly happy with it. Maybe use some digital photos or scans of very clean pictures to understand the textures you are trying to emulate.

If you don't mind the suggestion, though, try making the front of the ear starting halfway between the forehead and the back of the head for a better approximation of proportions. There are generalized standards for how deep the head should be in reference to the height and width and can be found on the web with a quick search.

I am attaching this image of a piece I am working on to give you an idea of what I am talking about. (Done in LW 7.5 and Sasquatch as well, but by no means the standard by which everything should be judged.)

I hope this helps. Good luck on your project and don't apply to any place I want to work at. I don't need more competition! heheh :p

I only mean the above in the best possible way. Take care.

Wow, it's one of the best 3d-humans i've ever seen. He really seems to be alive. This is one of those images, which makes me sad when comparing the artist's and my skills concerning 3d graphics :(

There is only one thing I have to criticize. There is a very hard transition from the sharpen to the blurry area around the hair.

This is an image that I`m going to submit to Korean LW contest.

There seems tp be some dithering artifacts in the light fallof area. see the areas around the eyebrows and nose to see what I mean.

Didn't see it in the other images, just this last one, and thought you wanted to know.

No way I coud ever make this. Not in a long shot! Love it!
The eyes are amazing!!

Good luck in the LW contest!!

Luv it...abesolutely LUV IT!!! Get in the indsutry man! With skills like that U can get a job at alot of high companies (Squaresoft 4 example)! The only thing that i can see a bit wrong is the DOF induced line that is still visible. Would be cool if U could make him a pony tail like the guy he was built after in "Best of the best". This one is more like that Stallone movie with Sharon Stone, but by no means bad. Real good...a definite 5 starer!!!!

It looks quite unrealistic, sorry. :curious:

First of all - skin. It looks like plastic with bump mapping like orange skin. Real skin doesn't have such a hard specular. Bump mapping is too big, try to make it a bit smaller. Human face must have more detail, more concave lines in the edges of the nose, eyes, mouth... Wrinkles. Add wrinkles, anyone has wrinkles!
Mouth is unrealistically dry. It doesn't look like he is unshaved, it looks like he soiled his face with ashes. Try to add some particular hairs, a gray blackout is not enought, looks like it's painted.

Hair. In the basis of hair skin is whiter. And it is not clear whence hair grows. By the way, it doesn't look like a healthy male hair.

Eyes should glitter. It is very important because when we look at a person we look in its eyes. Eyes give out in him lifeless.

Success! And accept it only as constructive criticism. :)
