View Full Version : Dynamics Question :: Chains
prayas 06-10-2004, 06:45 PM Hi out there.
I have not participated these forums for some time now. But been busy reading it.
Coming along with a problem.
I have used dynamics only once before and then yesterday i stumbled on a link to some wonderfull animations making massive use of dynamic chain models.
Maybe somebody seen these links to panzar.com on cgchannel.
I started a little test in c4d and got these results. Broken chains without breaking up the chain parts. HUAAA Magic.
(qt movie sorensen compressed zipped)

Maybe someone can help. Do you need the rigid body settings? or is my mistake in some other place?
Thanks for all help.

Try increasing the oversampling in the solver, and what intergration method are you using in?

Oversampling is on 64. Sub also.
Don't really know what this means but put it up on high value:).
Method is adaptiv. Should i try another method?

OK, you could try slightly increasing the EPS amount in the solver, it may give the appearance that your chains are hovering but you can tweak it from there. I would try Runge-Kutta and put the sampling up to something like 64 or maybe 128. Maybe something that might help you would be the eps rest speed. If you have got the dynamics manual you can find information about it on 197-201.

I also think that you have too much friction going on in your simulation and the objects are too light, which makes the chains seem to hang to the left defying gravity. Here is a quick sample of a metallic chain:

Thanks for help guys.
Will try the scene file when I'm back at home.

Tweaking the rest speed will definitely be your best friend there (try 10), and as the others said, increasing the oversampling for a more accurate compilation, and a smaller eps value, to decrease the range of collision.
Good luck!

Not dynamics...
using soft IK.
I know this is a different solution from what you are requesting but might be worth a look.

this is sort of a nice solution. thanks a lot Wes. NO time to play right now. Will try your setup later.
