Ultimatum

Hi,

I see very often comments like these in peoples critics :

"Nice shading"
"Good work with shaders"
etc...

I have never really realised what the "shading" in LW means.
Could someone give me the basic idea behind shading?

Thanks!

There is the general term of applying surface attributes and lighting to evoke an association with a surface in the real world (usually). I think that's the popular usage.

Then there is the specific term of 'shaders' as far as lightwave is concerned. Essentialy, "plugins" for surface attributes.

Below are a couple of links that may help fill things in. It's hard to keep terms pure. I tend to use "texturing", "shading", "surface attributes" to all refer to the appearance of an object. There are certainly subtle differences when you look at the history.

Anyway, here's the links:

For me, 'shading' is tweaking the glossines, reflection, light incidence etc.
And 'texturing' is painting the maps by hand...

I don't know if these are official terms, but this how I see it and use it in a reply or comment
