Today's topic:

"Evil twin" by Sciatica

Posted FRIDAY June 4TH 2004: 10:08 US EST

Welcome to the cgtalk sketch group.

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* 640 x 480 or 480 x 640
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" o plagiarizing.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

-Roberto

ahhh I have Electric light orchestra in the cd player here, I'm rocking on my chair here! :bounce: great band

anyhows..

J_Grieve & Telemaco: heh... cool concept
Jeroentje: Cool how you managed to create something great with very few lighted area's..Cool brushes too.

Would be cool if someone could give me some pointers on how to improve my sketches.. THey look kinda flat.. what am I doing wrong?

PS/WT/80M

Jeroentje: Great sketch! I like the lighting a lot!

Garma: Try using greater contrast to bring certain things more to the front or put them in the back. Try to figure out where the light sources come from and try to create the shadows accordingly. Dont be afraid to experiment. But most of all, keep practising! You'll get better each time.

as to what the story is. well if I've learned anything to draw then you should be able to tell (: if not then i gotta work harder and learn how to tell a story thru an image :P either way im drawing:D

o well hope you guys enjoy!

10 minutes sketch. 45 Minutes coloring.
http://zzacmann.250free.com/ZacEvilTwin.jpg

Im not really sure how I came up with this or whether eating paint chips all day contributed to it, but it was the only sketch I did today that I was satisfied with.

I tried to show one brother being very strong and a little devilish with very strong, angular lines and expression. The other brother, on the other hand, is very meak with very light and shallow features and expression. Almost as if the brother on the right is sucking the life out of the one on the left.

Since they are twins, I didn't want to draw there appearance completely different. I tried to create the feeling that they may have once been identical but due to hunger of power of one, the other has suffered and these attributes over time has been reflected in their physical development.

Okay, I don't know what I just said either. Maybe it will make more since in the morning.

Pencil sketch and ink 10 minutes, I then traced it with vectors to try to get better lines which took another hour or so and then colored it for another hour. Ain't perfect but its more complete than other stuff I submitted. Oh, I used a shadow filter around the robot just to speed things up after several hours in front of the PC my wife was giving me looks like an evil twin. ;)

I'd really like to work on this some more, but it's 4 AM and I promised myself I'd go to bed. Played a bit with a new style, tried to incorporate the image more into the background (something which I am terrible at doing). I kind of wanted guy in white to fade downward, with the guy in black juimping out of the picture. A little intense for something I only ended up spending and hour on.

thanks :) I saw it myself too and that's awesome (to see yourself improving, that is).

It was meant as a quick sketch to practice some techniques so I sort of forgot facial expressions.

Poop! My first draft had too many smilies so I gotta start over. I'll be brief this time.

First, thanks to RobertoOrtiz for posting our first weekend assignment. Hope we're not interfering with your weekend.

Goro -- I love that each days topic can be performed by your "Bot Theater".

AJ -- I had to reread yours 3 times before I got the joke. Then I fell on the floor laughing.

Agents J and D, I still can't get, but that's just me  Agent D's reminds me of the Corinthian from the Sandman "Doll's House" story line. The Corinthian cut out and ate eyeballs, but I don't remember him with a twin or a flamingo.

DaKingPen's evil twin makes me most nervous.

Bumskee -- Love the perspective and lighting, like she's got the "flashlight below the chin" creepy effect.

bupage -- I know that evil wife look. I get it at 1am when I'm still trying to upload my images.

Great work by everyone. And welcome aboard to Sir_Rubberduck.

AJ_23 - I love this clean illustration style

Great work everyone, this topic was quite interesting. Thanks for the comments! I went to bed, so sorry for the delay in explaining, mine was a bit obscure. I don't know if any of you have played the game Max Payne, or remember that there were a couple of TV shows playing inside the game? Anyway, Max Payne 2 expands a lot on that, and that's "John Mirra", the villain from "Address Unknown", which is a surreal series about someone who chases his evil serial-killer double around a city. It includes a demonic talking flamingo.

Good guesses though, it does look a lot like a Stranger or The Corinthian (thanks for reminding me to do a portrait of him some time.) You guys have good taste in movies and comics. ;)
