I know, I know... I'm sooo late. But now I'm done with all the exams and I can work in peace.
06-10-2004, 10:11 PM
foarte bun inceput
06-11-2004, 12:01 PM
ieeee un roman. Mersi ba, ma bucur ca-ti place. Mai bag azi doua concept-uri. De fapt cred c-o sa bag zilnic sa-i ajung pe ceilalti din urma...daca rezist
06-11-2004, 12:15 PM
I want to incorporate some kind of weapon in the angel; cause if I don't he'll fly all day around doin nothin. This weapon will give him a purpose. Here some sketches. Tell me if they fit.
06-11-2004, 12:20 PM
This is the weapon that I really wanna use. It is an energy compressor/blaster; I'll put it in the belly or in the chest area
06-11-2004, 05:28 PM
made a gunman for the energy blaster. I dunno if I'll use him, maybe I'll put back the wings.
06-11-2004, 05:38 PM
Just drawing things, hoping for a good idea; the wingie thing doesn't please me too much.
see ya tomorrow. waiting for comments.
06-12-2004, 02:37 PM
Finally! Got something!
The wingie guy and the weapon guy merged.
The result is pretty satisfying -- a mercenary, which has been brought
back to life and got equiped with a multifunctional torso blaster and
super powerful wings to reach in no time, any destination.
The mask on his face kept the attributes from the first concept, filtering and compressing air.
I left him with fingers at hands because a mercenary got many weapons, environments, situations to change and fingers seem to adapt best.
Body shape: athletic constitution, well defined muscles.
The wings are made of carbon fibers (for elasticity) and hard aluminium (the wing skeleton).
They are detachable.
The basis of the wing mechanism works on pressurised air.
The torsoblaster, as I said is multifunctional.
It can blow:
for distance combats
--condensed magnetic fields in ray shape and red laser beams.
and for close fight
--plutonium radiations and odorless poisonous gasses which are combined at the exterior part of the mechanism by two circular rotating blade layers.
Boots are taking an aerodynamic shape while flying and expand while landing and walking.
Wide boot soles for fast and easy landing, for good stability while firing and fighting.
Hope to make it. I'm left only with few few days to color.Hurry hurry hurry!
Waiting for crits.
06-12-2004, 02:43 PM
...and the line art
06-12-2004, 11:29 PM
poate aripile putin mai arcuite
06-12-2004, 11:35 PM
nice start , very nice
06-13-2004, 04:10 PM
Started to color like crazy. Now I really regret that I entered so late cause I have to paint day and night and I don't know how am I going to finish this. However if you have any suggestions on the background...'cause I'm not sure yet how to fill it. Thanks
06-13-2004, 11:12 PM
maybe..top of roofs and dark clouds....
06-14-2004, 09:00 AM
Thanks goli. The dark clouds would really go with the light. And I was thinking to surround him with gothic arches and columns; maybe some ruins, in contrast with the machine thing. They could compensate each other to create a dark atmosphere.
Tell me what do you think.
06-14-2004, 09:08 AM
nice stuff man!
nothing else to say... (it's late)
06-14-2004, 10:26 AM
I worked a lot yesterday but the final image still too far and 4 days is like a second with a 10 000 tons weight on my back.
As you see, some details on the pecs, some on the mechanic part.. nothing's finished, the lack of bg is still killing me. At least now I have an idea on it.
Tell me if you like it.
06-14-2004, 10:28 AM
:applause: I Like it.....nice style and mood...
Don't let us down...keep on working...times short...so good luck and post more soon:thumbsup:
06-14-2004, 12:09 PM
I'll try to finish the character by tomorrow, and at least sketch the bg.
Thanks for positive feedback.
06-14-2004, 06:49 PM
Wow, this is looking awesome! Love your concept sketches too. Thx for your input on my thread (not sure if I have time to finish mine either, ha ha). I love the loose approach you have in developing your ideas and it is obvious you have great draftmanship skills... very inspiring :applause:
Man, there's too much talent to keep up with on this forum! I LOVE IT!
Good luck, bro
06-15-2004, 01:12 PM
I've tried to keep my word. All the limbs have taken shape, the background is sketched. He's standing somewhere at great heights in a dark part of the old city, surrounded by abandoned futuro-gothic buildings.
Still a lot left to do. Getting back to work.
06-15-2004, 01:17 PM
A close-up made at 50% zoom. Have to do something with those wings. Time left: 3 days, 11 hours, 45 minutes, 32 seconds. This chronometer here is stressing me like hell.
Tell me if you like/hate it.
06-15-2004, 02:52 PM
hmmm...thanks for your words on my thread!!!
You're right about the time problems allthough i don't think it's as huge problem as it looks for the first sight.
My 2D teachers used to say: if you have to create a drawing, you have to make the decision when will you finish it and how many details will you add...a good picture is finished from the first minutes....no matter when have you stop it...I saw your picture and you have strong skills. I like your style coz it's living...and you can do great abstractions...you recreated your ideas during your work. That's an interesting idea why lots of artists want to create an overdetailed, confused image. If you put all the details on an image the viewer will die under the information's pushing. NOW U CAN MAKE A DECISION!
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TO ME? Hands, eyes, chest, some details on the wing....BUT NOT ALL!!! You have the ability to keep the direction of the browser's eyes. Put on some warmer colors on the important parts, just some details, few highlights, some special contours.
I hope i could help with my words....
I really like your result....I'm honest mate...that's a fact!
Bests to you and now sit back, and keep that pushing!!!
06-15-2004, 04:43 PM
Excellent job, dude!
I agree with Tremoside...just keep it, and try do your best!!
06-16-2004, 08:27 AM
nice dude ...realy love it.....multa bafta in concurs
06-16-2004, 09:15 AM
I agree with tremoside. It's a challenge though to decide what should remain loose and suggestive and what should be refined and detailed. It's almost like film editing... Not to mention it's hard to keep the life of a sketch as you start defining the shapes.
I guess it's good to keep in mind the illustration should support the main character design. Anything else besides that is extra juice and you should only do it IF you got the time. It sure looks like you got the speed...
Look pretty nice so far man.
06-16-2004, 01:11 PM
Huh, MrFreeman I'll try hard not to let anyone down..
The same to you!!
Thank you artjunkie, and you're right about the amount of talent, way, way too much. And too many entries.
I don't know if I even saw a half. Maybe cuz I came in waay too late.
Mark, you encouraged me more than you can imagine, must say that your REAL words went straight to
my heart (sounds so pathethic but when you really mean it, is like getting the real sense).
You're damn right about the false concept that a good artwork, must be an overdetailed one.
Details, if exagerated and/or without a REAL PURPOSE can really choke the image, this is something
that everybody shoud keep in mind.
But still, I don't think the details are the problem as much
as the multitude of unjustified elements crowded in a very small area, intended to demonstrate the one's
capacity of drawing anything in ONLY ONE painting or drawing. This is not a quality, but a fear.
I'm always glad to hear about someone that is apreciating the real values in art and
not some kitschuristic eyecandies, that keep suffocating it.
Thanks again for the consistent and objective observations and for all the useful advices.
You might be the teacher I never had. Take care and stay sharp.
Thanks BloodTaster. I've seen your final and it looks really awesome.
I'll try to do my best, so far this piece is one of the most studied I ever did.
The same to you Bruno. Work fast and stay focused.
The key to keep the freshness of the sketch.
The extra juice started to flow. Look above.
Thank you all! It really meant a lot to me!:)
06-16-2004, 01:20 PM
I worked a bit on the personality and attitude. It's mostly done, the wings are done; I'll leave thm like that 'cause I like them, maybe I'll smudge it a little, here and there, but I don't know... what was I saying about the details?...
Tell me if you think they spoil the image!
06-16-2004, 01:20 PM
Click the image to see it bigger. As Mark suggested, I added some orange warmy hues on the flesh. Forgot to say it there.
06-16-2004, 01:25 PM
Here a face close shot. Click the image, or better not 'cause you might see some pixels..Bye! Thx again for your attention.
06-16-2004, 01:50 PM
Thank you LaurentiuBontea.
Just keep your way straight and you will reach the price.
I see your talent allthough i don't want to polish up your skills. and an other point: as you know am from Hungary and your country's history are almost the same as ours all we had hard days...the dictatures and cultural suffering under those tyrannic ages. Lots of other artists have financial and cultural stability but ususally we don't. Trust in yourself!!!
As i see from your profile you're also a lion just as I (august 9.) and you're quite young...lots of chances you have!
Bests to you and thanks again your kind reply.
06-16-2004, 02:15 PM
Great charakter!! Great textures you are painting!! I like it very, very much. Good luck!!
06-16-2004, 02:16 PM
Leo?! Hey, that makes three of us.
Btw, My jaw dropped after seeing your piece man.
06-16-2004, 03:02 PM
It is not possible, you painted directly on the monitor!?!
06-16-2004, 03:37 PM
Really looking good. Great texture!
06-16-2004, 07:38 PM
Hi Laurentiubontea !
This is simple : I've seen many 2d threads but your work is definitely one of my favorites !
This is simply awesome !
I love the character and I love the way you paint.
Is there something from Cthulhu on his head ? Am I right ?
Your details don't spoil the image, they are perfect and they enhance it ! Keep going on !
Good luck !
06-16-2004, 09:59 PM
esti pe drumul cel bun
06-16-2004, 10:19 PM
Also, don't quit.. you're cool.
06-17-2004, 01:11 PM
Changed the bg, added some dust I'll motivate later...I can't really talk about it right now cuz I have to hurry (I don't have www @ home and here at school they don't let me too much), and I'll give comments and answers later. Thanks a bunch guys for your attention.
06-17-2004, 01:23 PM
Very Professional. You should be very proud. You have created a very powerful Character. Good use of color. It has created the feel and mood perfectly. Well done.
06-17-2004, 07:00 PM
Hello guys and sorry for the delay...
Well, what can I say... you left me with an open mouth.
You're one of the very few people that really believe in my success. All of my life I've been pushed aside
to make way for the favorite ones. Now, you make me believe that those days are finally starting to dim.
And yes you guessed everything right, i've always been financially unstable, i can't even afford
my own PC yet, but I think that you and i and the other ones that got here, and are coming from undeveloped or in course of
developing countries have stepped psychically a high placed verge. And that's why maybe we always feel that
we are with a step backward and that's where the cultural complexes come from. We were lucky, for us it was easier because we are younger..And we are lucky again for not being afghans or iraqi or I don't know, etiopians; we woudn't had any chance...Head-up, it's not that bad!
Anyways, thanks for your words again, and I can't believe you're voting me. Hard to believe that. Or maybe i'm easy to impress. You've seen maybe all the pieces in the contest and supported all those in need
and you came to me to say that you're giving me your vote? That my friend, is the biggest honor I could get.
It didn't surprise me at all to see that you're working as a mechanic. Otherwise you wouldn't have speak about financial
instabilities. Good luck to you my friend and maybe we'll meet someday.
If you don't mind I would like to ask you to do something for me, if you think you have the time.Someday. Could you render an
image with the poison lady..a semi-profile perspective view with the glass in the foreground but careful
not to cover her with it, using fish-eye lens at medium distorsion. I'm really curious how she'd look like. Thanks again for
everything..talk to you later.
Thanks Locusta I'm glad you like the textures and the character.
Good luck to you too. I'll drop by to see how's your jumper doing.
Uh, caberte sorry for that jaw.. You know, you're really funny, you're posting
everyday a new final color. It's good that you keep anlyzing your painting and search
for weak spots.
No hephez, only on a cheap 4"X 5" Genius brand tablet. I'm glad to have it.
Deadly Force, could be from ctulhu, he's got a filter mask that helps him with underpressurized air at great heights. Thanks and good luck to you too.
bag bombeule , mersi
Godlewski I'm glad you like it. When i start working on a concept I always begin with the mood and colors and only after with the shapes. Thanks for that thumb.:wavey:
06-17-2004, 07:11 PM
Oh I forgot to tell you few things about the latest upload. I changed the bg because I felt that the old one was competing with the character's power on a lighting scale of values and i wanted something softer, to dive in the shade.
I kept the look of gothic environment but i didn't raise it at those futuro heights as before.
I also added some fog and dust. They never do any harm. And I tried to clarify most of the shapes,
made them easier to be read. And because it's a learning forum i'm gonna share a word of a grand
contemporary master - Craig Mullins. He said that a good painting is like a perfectly exposed
photography, with details in shade just as in light. Of course it can be disputed, but it's a good
thing to keep in mind. I'm always trying to make use of it.
Ok. Enough with the aberations.C U all tomorrow in the morning when I'm gonna upload the final. I hope to manage it somehow, i don't know much about using a ftp client. And I hope to find the school open.
Thanks guys, it's been a real slice!
06-17-2004, 11:59 PM
My friend Laurentiu,
Your new upload with the pushed back backgroun is better for the mood and the expression of the character. About your post?
At the moment i have no words...yes we are lucky...we have chance to break out, but we have to work a lot to reach our dreams. You know i see lots of thoughts in your image, this is why I feel it near to myself...those heavy boots are keeping him on the ground but the wings are showing the possibilities to leave the ground...he is strong, someone unreal but his pose and expression are presenting a real human soul. A fighter captured in a moment when he is just a man with the rest of his thoughts....
About rendering? Sounds good.....I hope time will be friendly, usually, you know...
06-18-2004, 07:29 AM
sorry guys, no blah blahs for now just uploads; while I still can..
06-18-2004, 07:00 PM

This guy knows what he is doing, this is the first thing that shows 2 me.He,besides the fact that he is a talent, and makes art like an artist in the splendor of the meaning ,he act as a proffesionist,a scientist-artist that push the art at limits.I know him well, and I know what I'm saying, and I'm affraid that he stays at the brink of this forum.I love his work and way of thinking. He is complete. ;-)
06-20-2004, 09:12 PM

how to do it...Cheers.
Wohohow sceptik why do you have to exagerate like that?
You surprised me bigtime. I'm glad you think all that stuff about me (wonderin' why

06-23-2004, 08:50 AM
Throw knives? No… that is a bad idea…a noble man once said…if you hate a man do not throw an awry words against him…instead throw him a Bread J…with a container.

GREAT job, I love the focus on the big guy, and he looks TOTALLY cool, you painted well with the shadows, it's a hard thing to pull off, shadow and detail at the same time. You did it WELL :applause:
