View Full Version : what bugs me about Cinema...
the rotation labels!
God I hate those...
Pitch, Bank and Heading! (can't I just have a simple XYZ rotate label so I can figure out what I'm rotating without having to convert it back in my head?)...
end rant... :D

Use global coordinates.

I have the same trouble. What I normally do is watch the coordinate manager while I use the rotation handles to start the object moving in the right direction. Then, if I need an exact rotation I know which field to use.

It comes as second nature if you do the above...eventually...

the old plain example worked fest for me, and comes in handy when doing CA and vehicle animations where those terms apply :)
You can turn off HPB I believe in the preferences settings, but never tried itout to see how it works with plain ol XYZ.
the truth is it's an annoyance more than anything... largely when I'm working with more than one program.
like When I'm trying to enter values fast, and i have to check them every other time :D
Kaiskai, are you meaning to say I can change this?
I haven't ever really messed with the interface, finding it for the most part suited for me :D...

You can change it to xyz rotation, but that has consequences for animating. I don't recall what the difference is exactly, but I remember reading something about it in the manual

well not entirely, in thegeneral settings on the first page there is a checkbox to use HPB or not, but unfortunately it only applies to how the axis works in the editro, the coordintates still work in the HPB system :( sorry to get your hopes up.
What I was hoping for was a way to change the way it's labled...
(just have to remember it's YXZ....)
and now I realize why I'm so confused!!!!
the XYZ scale and postion does NOT corrospond to the rotations!!!
(no WONDER... )

Ive gotten confused as well....one way to remember which way is which is to just visualize HPB as an airplane.....the heading is when it can turn, hence, the axis of the plane turning would be the Y axis, the Pitch of the plane would make it go up or down, and the axis of that would be the X axis, and the Bank would be if its turning with the turn, hence, the Z axis. Yes, its more difficult, but I believe the reason it is so, is because it gets confusing if your model is rotated....if your model was built standard, facing the Z axis....and you have the animation with the plane facing Right (East,whatever)....then what would you change?? The right side of the plane is facing the Z axis, even though its native X axis.....so I think this is where HPB comes in handy. Havent tried it. Someone correct me if Im wrong.
Interestingly enough, Messiah has excactly the same labels, so I guess I'll have to get used to it :D
They're manipulation system is similar, but a bit more integrated into the obect, which is nice.

I like that Messiah's manipulation gadget has handles for both translation and rotation, so you don't have to switch back and forth between move and rotate tools as you do in Cinema. It's also cool that you can turn off whichever handles you want to prevent accidental movements.

I wish C4D would rip off some of Maya's manipulators. For instance, Maya's extrude manipulator allows you to move, scale, rotate, and change from globabl to local axis all with the same tool. Friggin insane, but really easy to use.
